The Magister's Guild

The Magister's Guild is a semi-diverse group of wizards who are dedicated to uncovering and controlling the secrets and knowledge of Ymph.  To what ends they use the secrets and knowledge is unknown, uncertain and FIOG. ;)

Many of them believe that Netheril was the pinnacle of human arcane achievement, and would like to see a new age rise from the ashes of the fallen empire.

They spend their days and weeks digging through the rubble of what is left behind, sifting for clues to unlock ancient lore, while at the same time working to protect the colony from any number of secret and dangerous threats.

The Magister's Guild in many ways view themselves as the first, and perhaps the last, line of defense against the many threats that lie buried or hidden.

Type of Players We Need:

-  Pro-Active.  I define this as a person who does things on their own initiative, without being instructed to do them, and that does not require constant micromanaging.  Your character should have goals, and be in an never ending quest to pursuing them.  If you achieve those goals, think up new ones.

-  Involves Others.  I like it when people do things that involve others.  The more you can involve, the better.

-  Team Player.  I'm looking for someone who wants to leave their mark, but more importantly who is interested in helping build a faction on the island.  Building the faction should be a key goal to every member of the faction.

-  Not afraid of DM's.  Some of what we do requires DM's.  You have to be willing to bug one, or several, or all of them until you find one who not only has the time, but is willing to help you do what you are trying to do.

Type of Character We Need:

-  Non-good aligned works best, simply so you can get along with a wide number of people.  Neutral is perhaps ideal, with evil also working rather well within reason.

-  Humans are the best race, but non-humans are also accepted.  If you are playing a KOS (Kill on Site) race, or currently a Half-Orc (since they are not legally allowed in the Colony at the moment) you will not be accepted.

-  Pro-Government.  The Magister's Guild is a branch of the Colonial government.  Thus, an anti-government character will not find themselves very welcomed in the guild.  This does not mean you have to agree with or lovingly embrace the government, but at minimum it means you have to respect the laws and orders given from the proper authorities.

-  Likes to dig in the dirt.  We are not so much a group of battle wizards as a group of scholarly types.  Of course, there is room for battle wizards too, so long as they do not mind aiding in uncovering secrets about the island, the various ruins, and what not.  There is plenty of battle to be had, but we are not a power questing group.  Our primary goal will always be uncovering secrets and knowledge.

-  Likes to build things.  EfU:A was created with building things in mind.  We are looking for people who are willing to try and create, research and build new things.

QuoteF.A.Q.

1.  Can I Multi-Class Wizard?

Yes.  You should have more than just one level of wizard, but multi-classing is fine.  Ideally, Wizard is going to be your primary class.

2.  Can I play a Sorcerer or Bard?

No.  The faction only accepts wizards or multi-class wizards.  Multi-classing with one of the above is acceptable, however.

3.  I want to help this faction, but I don't want to play a wizard, is there anything I can do to get involved?

Yes!  We try and involve everyone that we can.  For example, right now we are looking for a PC Merchant to assist our faction in purchasing and paying for the things that we need.  Non-Wizard scholarly types will typically join the Archaeological Society.

We still require the aid of fighters, rogues, and other classes to support us in our goals.  Joining the Society, and supporting the Magister's Guilds efforts through there is your best bet.

4.  How much freedom will my PC have?

You'll have a great deal of freedom to do pretty much anything you want.  You will be expected to obey superiors, and be loyal to the government.

5.  Do I need an application to join?

No.  The Magister's Guild is currently a player faction at the moment.

6.  What is the Magister's Guild view on Necromancy?

This is mostly FIOG, but I will say that we do not turn away people who practice necromancy.

7.  What type of specialized wizards does the Magister's Guild need?

It doesn't matter.  Pick a specialization that suits your character and that you'll enjoy.

Feel free to post any questions here in this thread.  I'll answer them to the best of my ability.

A lot of this seems like stuff that should be in game, and not in an OOC recruitment thread!

Most of it is in game, in posters around the Ziggurat and has been for awhile. ;)

There is nothing spoilerish that isn't public knowledge.

Sternhund

This is definitely a neat and proactive faction of which I endorse!

Bump.  We need pro-active players to play Wizards, still.  We have a pretty active group, but require more!

I am very interested in this but I am having troubles finding you in IRC or IG, perhaps RL things.  Drop me a line, I know we talked a bit about it before.
