If anyone can help him out it'd be great. ^^

Thani:    Are conjurations allowed inside of town? (Aslong as they aren't obviously hostile-looking)

Thani:    Can the lesser planar binding from the cultist sorcerer background be used together with normal summons?

xXCrystal_Rose

Thani: So,  how do you guys like, really decide on what to play? Do you just pick  something and stick to it with iron will no matter what?

xXCrystal_Rose

The answer to the planar binding question would be no. You use your sorcerer token to summon that. It's the same as if you used any other item to summon a creature. Only one can be active at a time, and casting a spell will override it and unsummon that which was brought forth via an item.

I got some more.

I've noticed that some undead creatures can still be sneak attacked (probably because of the model they use but I'm not sure), can they also be affected by mind-effecting spells?

If a player is under a charm effect, can they, and are they aware/allowed to just drink a clarity potion, even if they didn't identify the spell with spellcraft?

If a spell that has had it's duration increased by spell focuses is extended, does it double the base duration or the modified duration?

Thani

Also, can summons be used by the side of an animated/created dead from an item? Or is it the same as normal summons?

Edit: More questions following...

Is a scrying focus or something needed for scrying? Or is that perhaps used to extend the range of the spell?

Can Teleport be casted in combat?

xXCrystal_Rose

Ok, for undead it depends on the type. Standard undead you cannot sneak attack. Nightrisers or some zombies for example. H'balan undead you can. Her method of undead creation is different from the standard practice. The details of which you'll have to learn IC though. That's why you can sneak attack or critical hit some undead but not others. Mind spells they cannot be effected by in my experience. There might be some out there which can, but I personally haven't seen any yet. That seems to be a trait all undead share.

To use the Scry spell you must have a scrying focus.

Creatures made from Animate Dead cannot also be used with summons. When you do one it unsummons the other. Animated creatures will use conjuration points though if cast plain, which will summon a zombie. You cannot animate a skeleton and also summon something though, it's just one or the other, animates or summons.

I'm actually not sure about extend spell, since our duration changes are custom work from feats. Pretty sure it increases the -total- duration though, including all modifiers.

Thanks for answering questions. ;)

I don't think anyone has played every character they created till it's rightful end.  Personally the first thing I think about is the "type" of character I want to play.  Manic, crazy, mad, angry, fun, cheerful, honest.. etc.  These then help me develop the character.  Next I decide on the Class, what fits this "person" best. Now, I will agree that any character can go with any class, but I tend to have a good idea of WHO I want to play, not what.  From there I can 'see' what they are, and where they would be trying to go.

I should put it out there, that I have NEVER played a quest-bot, or a true front liner. The closest I have come to that is a Cleric.  But, I tend to enjoy the Back up classes more.  Rogue, Bard etc.

The only other thing I can tell you is, if you have an idea but mechanically can't do it, then go for the "feel" of it.  Look at the feats, skills and perks, see if there is something there that can give the feel of what you are going for.  Don't limit your creativity by the mechanics of the game.  I had one character that every time she did a certain thing I had a custom Macro that gave the same description.  "So and So flails about landing with a thud." This way people knew what I was doing and I didn't have to type the same thing over and over again.

Thanks. Atm I'm trying out a rather aimless wizard. I know DM's prefer to have characters with goals and things, but I quite like this.

Also;

How many years pass in game for every IRL year?

Talir

No summons, animal companions or familiars in town.

Charm is daze, unless you are sporty enough to roleplay being charmed. Daze, you can use clarity.

Some questions are best answered in-game.

One year is ca. one year real life.

I personally hate quitting characters, especially if they are a part of something. I'll stick to a character to the bitter end, though I used to switch between them quite often.

Only chance at gaining any fame or infamy, or of really being noticed is to stick with a character for a longer period of time. Ultimately it's just a game though, so do what you enjoy, even if that means switching between characters often, though I can't recommend it.

As for determining what to play, I look at the current environment, and see what is there and especially what is not there. I like to join the smaller, weaker groups and help push their agendas. That's just groups, though, as for deciding class and race, I like to put a spin on it. Kojach was a Silvanite, but a priest, not a druid like most Silvanites have been. He did many of the same things as a druid though for different reasons. I had a dwarf summoner sorc who worshipped an earth elemental a while back, as well.

I like to envision some past struggle the character faced, and then how they overcome that struggle determines what their class is. Race usually is determined by whatever race is most likely to get into that particular hardship, or whatever I'm interested in at the time.

Thani

Alright, cool. I think most of my characters are INTP personalities, so they don't really push much. DMs want characters to be more extrovert but that's really hard for me, to get into that mindset I mean, cause it's in the outer space of my comfort zone.
