A THRONE TO BE TAKEN.

Quote from: An excerpt taken from the journal of a Wyrm Watcher scout and tracker, found abandoned in the Withered Lands. The search for a King takes many turns - the concept of a King, the true King, is different in the minds of all men. There are some that chase an ideal, that what quantifies a King is his ability and willingness to defend his people, that a King is a noble individual, honourable, fair and just, that what we are looking for is a man worthy of legend come to sweep our worries away.

There are others - the old amongst us - who still hold true to established traditions, who do not chase a dream but a line of succession, who trace the Explorer’s blood, Ymph, first of this Isle. Blood spread through the Druids and savages of this Isle, a line lost with the death of the Great Druid prior.

Some reckon that a King is only made by the Crown on his head, and so they chase that, coveting a throne for themselves.

There are a slim few amongst us that don’t chase fact or fiction, there are some amongst us who don’t seek a King, but the betterment of the people stuck clinging to this Isle, who are incapable of bettering themselves. We are disillusioned, and it is we who are most concerned that, if a King is thought to have been found ... by right of succession, or by the chase of a hopeless legend ... of what our brethren will do if this Isle will not receive him, of what we will stop at to have his throne taken.

We fled once and shirked our oaths to a man who thought himself a god, I fear we’ll seat one of the same.

A question is raised, one never before considered - if a King is found, what if he is not to our liking?

It was highlighted in Leopold Handelsson’s Mayoral address that it was his, and the Wyrm Watchers’ as a whole, intention to prepare Mistlocke for ‘the coming of the King’, but never was it thought that this would be adverse to the people’s wishes, or seen to be infringing on their freedoms and liberties.

Having spoken to many of the township’s residents, I know that they take a pride in their democratic processes, and appreciate their influence on the matters that affect them. The nature of a ‘King’ is that he is not chosen, not like a Mayor, but that - more often than not - his power is gained and his rule maintained through force. Such a regime is contrary to the villagers’ desires, but such a regime is what is sought by the Wyrm Watchers in their hunt for a ruler.

In their fantasies, a King is found to match the Crown, and he is loved by one and all, but this is not likely. They will be sour when who they take to the King is denied his right to rule, but their swords will still be sharp from all the effort it took to find him, and when they look back to see all the blood shed and lives spent to carry them to where they are, they will not refrain from spilling more to place their chosen as King of the Isles.

Why is it, then, that this knife-in-the-dark, these would-be taskmasters are ignored for what little good they do in fighting the Lichess? Every ineffectual blow dealt raises a whoop and a cry, for little good that it does, and the people remain oblivious, blinded with the comings and goings of hope.
