The Book Idea

I had this idea on another server I was playing on a year or two ago; basically, to more seriously impliment the lore into the server, we impliment player-made books which are carefully chosen and place them in libraries, or book piles that touch among various subjects. This will:

  • Allows another opportunity for players to give to the server
  • Makes learning the lore (relatively) easier by providing another source
  • Assists in making the environment more realistic
  • Helps new players understand their environment
  • Helps old players reinforce their understanding
But before we go into procedure, we should see how much support this idea gets. We already have a plethora of books here on the forum, which is AMAZING (on my old server, we were just thinking of writing some), so it's just a matter of putting them in-game, as well as spellchecking/proof-reading them, which might pose as a problem.

Comments, concerns, everything; below!

Already very possible! We have an entire archive here (http://www.escapefromundeath.com/forums/forumdisplay.php?f=163) and exceptional works are given various representation IG.

Well, I reckon the only real quandary I've ran into is that books don't seem "readily available"-- which makes sense, because if we had a library, the books could be taken and never returned. But, say, that if a merchant sold these books AND we had a "public library" (just a bookshelf) which acted much like the Charity chest, the library would be player sustained.

Additionally, it might be nice to have rare tomes be put away as quest rewards, so that bolstering personal collections can be sort of a hobby for some of our scholarly wizards and otherwise.

I'm more concerned regarding distribution, though. A funny idea I had, in the Epistles interior, was to put some pretty badly written books in there to solidify the fact that most of the books were illigitimate/worthless. Of course, that's just silly. . .

Spiffy Has

There is a Library IG and a Bookshop IG.

Both in Mistlocke.

Oh. I didn't see them. Where are they then? There must've been a reason I couldn't find it.

The Boom King

It's kind of out of hidden, but finding it is a rewarding experience in it's own way! Take a good look at the buildings around Mistlocke. :)

Nihm

There used to be a faction that was partly about writing books, some of which would be placed in game, and those books are still about.

According to your own words, you've already been there. Maybe just investigate it a bit more IG.
