Crash Detection

Okay so this server is wicked awesome.  I absolutely -love- the harsh death penalties and the sever level of danger.  I don't much mind if my PC goes out adventuring and dies to a monster that was better than him.

One thing that really grinds me gears though is crash-deaths.  I tend to crash a lot, it seems.  I've tried wiping my override folder to combat this, but crashes till happen.

Given that one death = the loss of weeks of questing/adventuring, it makes it a heartbreaking moment when you crash and log back in dead.  Knowing that you were setback all those hours of play due to an utterly inconvenient OOC mechanism such as a game crash.

My question:  Is there any way to detect a crashed character?  As in, if a PC crashes they get like a temporary sanctuary?  Or perhaps some kind of server log that identifies it so the character can be recovered?  Perhaps even if a disconnect happens, the server automatically booting the character? (Rather than booting the second before you log in)

I'm sure this wouldn't be easy, and not sure if its even possible...  But if so, could something like this be implemented?

I could be wrong.

However I'm mostly sure that certain types of crashing removes you out immediately since it cuts the connection between you and the game-world. It basically creates a log-out

Your problem is more specifically a time-out. This is basically an extended lag period where information is still trying to communicate but no specific end signal is sent. The server/nwn has a period of time which it will allow this connect to be maintained before it will automatically terminate.

I dont believe you can script someone to be immune to damage during sucha period. I'm sure it can even be adequately detected. If it could be detected, and scripted, I'm not sure it would not complicate situations that occur within lag. Which, if possible, might not help you anyway: as the time period which it allows you to "lag" will still probably be enough time for whatever monster to kill you.
