Quote(Writer's note: "These ledgers were originally given to me by Teril Smythe - Mister Smythe - as copies; I, once of the now disbanded - and rather late - House Smythe, Micheal Tommas, thought it might be best to share the history of these records with others. Hopefully mister Smythe is well where ever he may be - For Oghma, House Smythe, and the late Duchy")

Book I

In my home land of Rigmard we do not use your traditional method of measuring the time, instead we use a system known as chronolosis where we measure the date, time and year by the sea's that surrounded the island. It is a very hard method to use as it requires one to know when the tide is so far out it is such a time.

Our months are as following;
 • Hullen
 • Rigus
 • Elli
 • Judan
 • Jurdan
 • Risthoff,
 • Hogshoof
 • Meadbar
 • Uren
 • Marth
 • Roaringwind
 • Icestar
Here I shall pen the records of the past year, in Volumes I, II, III, IV and V.

Hullen.

QuoteHullen, 16th-Rigus 3rd
The coast guard revolted against the lawful inhabitance of Rigmard taking to piracy and pillaging the outlying farms and villages in the name of the Bitch Queen. They are lead by a fanatic of Umberlee known as Mukhtar the Land Shark.
QuoteHullen, 23th.
A ruling was past in the great capital of Rigmard that the Militia and Rigmardian infantry shall storm the coast guard fortress of Mun'loch. These following days will see much death and misfortune brought to the lands of Rigmard.
QuoteHullen, 24th.
Enroute to the fortress of Mun'loch Rigmardian infantry and Militia encountered a raiding party of the Coast Guard around twenty or so sea hardened veterans, they we slain however Militia losses were high. An approximation of two Militia for each raider.
QuoteHullen 25th.
Forces sent to destroy Mun'loch make camp at the plains of Sirrir this is just half a day's march from the fortress of Mun'loch.
In the capital a tax riot was successfully averted by the Brethren of the Silver Chalice. Taxes went down.

QuoteHullen 26th.
The seige of Mun'loch has started during the night as Rigmardian forces washed upon the walls of Mun'loch. Unable to break the fortresses defences they returned back to camp, Militia forces halved and Infantry lost an eighth of it's number. Coast Guard casualties are unknown to this date
QuoteHullen 27th.
Coast Guard forces lose the outer wall of Mun'loch keep to the onslaught of the Rigmardian forces who were aided by adventurers. Around half the Coast Guard are dead now and still no sign of their traitorous leader.
QuoteHullen 28th.
In a drastic turn of events the Coast Guard rushed out in the middle of the night to reclaim the outer wall and see off the Rigmardian forces. They did such with the aid of a powerful water elemental. Rigmardian forces set off homeward while citizens speculate as to what happens now.
Rigus

QuoteRigus 1st.
Late at night the Brethren of the Silver Chalice were called upon by the state. After a length of time within the citadel fantastic a group of around seven Guardians, three Acolytes and the Chaptermaster left the city heading west towards Mun'loch.
QuoteRigus 3rd.
The war with the Coast Guard is over offically as the Brethren of the Silver Chalice pike the head of Muhktar outside the Fortress Mun'loch. The remainder of the Coast Guard are gone, sacrificed by Muhktar to Umberlee for divine servants. His sacrifices were accepted by the bitch and the Brethren had to face many water elemental's however thanks to the guidance and beneovelence of Siamorphe they remained victorious. Unfortuantly brother Guardian Marcus Juran, brother Guardian Kelisuu and Acolyte Jonathan Heel were lost to the grasp of the Bitch, their passing leaves many of the Chalice mourning.

QuoteRigus 16th.
This date sees the only other event of import for this month. A roaming band of gnolls happened upon an outlying village in retaliation to this the state sent the Chalice to eradicate them. The chief's head was piked outside his own cave.
Elli.

QuoteElli 5th.
Tax's increase slightly. Growing public resentment of state for increasing taxs when already money is short. Grain supplies are good we have enough food for the next frost.
QuoteElli 7th.
This date the lady Helen of Rigmard a bastion of freedom and support of the island falls ill with some form of disease. Taxs are still rising.
QuoteElli 20th.
Lady Helen of Rigmard dies over night, the state and it's people are in mourning for the loss of a such a wonderful woman. A statue is placed of her within the square at the Citadel Fantastic. Tax's have stopped increasing however they are double what they once were.
QuoteElli 24th.
A riot against tax's once more shatters the peace of the streets surrounding the Citadel Fantastic. Three Militia men are slain and ten commoners are trampled to death. Infantry had to repulse the riot and calm them down, for now.
Judan.

QuoteJudan 10th.
It was passed that Tax's would fall by seventy percent as the state had found a new gold ore vein. There are celebrations in the street as people once more can feed their family. A great banquet was held in the great hall of the Citadel Fantastic.
QuoteJudan 17th.
Several more people in the lower quarter have developed the symptoms Lady Helen had. The physician's of the chemist guild have been working around the waves to cure them, alas no aid as of yet.
QuoteJudan 19th.
The amount of people showing symptoms of this new found illness has tripled over night and people in the higher quarter whisper in fear of a new plague spreading over the city in secret.
QuoteJudan 25th.
Lower quarter has been barricaded off as the new plague takes it's toll on the residents. The plague has been named spongelung for the lungs absorb tremendous amounts of vital fluids before drying out the victim
Jurdan

QuoteJurdan 1st.
The Acolyte's of the Chalice enter the moonspring well of the Citadel Fantastic, where all the water flows out to the parts of the city. They do not re-emerge for days. Elsewhere the plague take's its toll spreading into the houses of much more noble men and women. The dead litter the streets in hundreds.
QuoteJurdan 5th.
The Chalice Acolyte's re-emerge from the well and rumour spreads of a battle with a cult of Talona within the depths of the sacred site. in under a day the plague that gripped the city is gone, those that still suffer from it were seen to by the Acolytes and healed.
QuoteJurdan 13th.
The next generation of Chalice Brethren are given to the test of faith. Over eighty percent pass and they are sworn as brethren Guardians or Acolytes. A celebration in honour of this is held in the Chapterhouse, in the Temple of Siamorphe.
These records of noble Rigmard shall follow on in Book II. Blessed be the noble, the defender and the follower of Siamorphe for in her light and her radiance we walk. Regula Noble, I am your shield.

Risthoff

QuoteRisthoff 7th.
This day marks the start of the Risthoff festivals a time of joy, wealth and gift giving. All in the lands are content.
QuoteRisthoff 8th.
This day a series of explosions rock the citadel fantastic during a parade, the Infantry have closed off the citadel and none have left or entered. The cause of the explosions is unknown. The citadel shall remain like this for the coming days.
QuoteRisthoff 9th.
More explosions of a similar nature to those at the citadel erupt in the lower quarter. These explosions wreck havoc with many low grade trading establishments. The common class are in uproar and the nobles are fearful of where next these explosives shall set off.
QuoteRisthoff 10th.
In a chain explosion the western wall of the citadel fantastic falls. Still none in the city know what or who is responsible for these acts, many more whisper fearfully of what these people are capable of if they can commit direct actions of war and still not be found.
QuoteRisthoff 12th.
This day from every gutter, every derelict house and every crevice the traitorous scum of a generation flowed forth. Bandit, traitor, murderer and anarchist all swarmed forth rioting in the streets of the Citadel Fantastic. The Chalice brethren were called forth and they employed their full numbers defending the innocent, fortunately no brethren were lost and the scum was repulsed and the threat they posed put down. However it is still unknown who or what leads these anarchists or the goals the attempt to accomplish
QuoteRisthoff 20th.
Once more the tide came of darkness, they washed upon the streets-however this time amidst the horde were robed figures, clad in dark purples and blacks. Once more the brethren were summoned to meet them, they were repulsed but these robed figures can cast some dark form of magic before their retreat into the sewers. A large scorch mark now blesses the plaza of the Citadel Fantastic. It's purpose remains unknown. The brethren see to maintaining a vigilance ring around the citadel.
QuoteRisthoff 21st. The black day.
This day shall go down in the books of the Chalice as the black day, for hence forth let it be known the sacrifice made by it's members in the name of peace and benevolence. Upon this day at noon, a great fog rolled out upon the citadel and it's defenders, within it something stirred. Warily the brethren kept formation in defence of the citadel awaiting the expected wave of anarchy however, it did not come. No, what came was much more horrid. The robed figures from before however en-mass now walked forth from the fog, great baskets of burning incense hung from their very flesh and hands. Without delay they threw themselves upon the brethren in a savage fury similar to that of men possessed. For this is what they were.
The fight was short and bloody, the figures were easily dispatched. Their fallen bodies began to twitch and convulse like a wretched creature giving birth, great wings of bone and muscle ripped from their backs into the material plane. Each of them had been sacrifices to the dark gods to bring forth demonic beings unto Rigmard. Some were eight feet tall, some had wings small or long, some had many heads where as others had none. The battle was long and hard however the Chalice was victorious, a list of fallen shall be provided underneath.
Know that these men and woman gave their lives to defend the commoners from demonic threat.

Book III

Records previous to these can be found in Book's I and II. Read on good friend, at your own leisure.

Hogshoof

QuoteHogshoof 2nd.
This day marks a brighter future for Rigmard as the Chalice and the Church of Siamorphe spend many long hours in the legal rooms of the Citadel Fantastic. From these hours comes a legal document stating the Chalice may enforce the law and shall receive a new chapel. Tax's are risen slightly to produce more coin so that the Citadel's Walls may be rebuilt.
QuoteHogshoof 4th.
Little of import happens this day, however good news is that the Citadel Fantastic's western wall has started to be rebuilt.
QuoteHogshoof 5th.
The Chalice brethren announce publically that they shall be accepting commoners whom show dedication to the cause of Siamorphe and the Divine Right into the order's aspirants if they show promise. This is the first time in the history of Rigmard that the gates to nobility have been opened so wide.
QuoteHogshoof 7th.
The western Citadel wall is coming along well, a recent influx of commoners have joined the Chalice's aspirant ranks. The Aspirants have swelled from twenty to over fifty in less than two days. The local Militia and the Infantry however have started to show signs of decadency, this is seen to by the churches of Tyr and Siamorphe.
QuoteHogshoof 15th.
The completion of the western Citadel wall took place today, upon the occasion the Lord Duke Rigmard came forth and offered a speech to the public masses. A note of such speech shall be underneath. Eighteen Chalice aspirants were found in whore houses last eve and have been summarily dismissed. Grain from the out lying regions has come into the Citadel and has been stored well under armed guard of the Local Militia and a handful of Infantry. The combined efforts of the Churches of Tyr and Siamorphe do seam to have some form of effect on the Militia and the Infantry, unpleasantly crime rates are steadily rising about the city.
The speech of Imotel Rigmard the 3rd.
Regula Noble.
QuoteMy loyal citizens this day within this hour, we the cities noble defenders were informed of the valiant actions of the adventurers guild. May they be applauded and shown a measure of respect as required to hero's. Upon another matter concerning grain and tax's, we have enough food my loyal friends and while I may seam harsh in rising tax's in such a needy time please know that I will and always shall place the concern of my citizens first before any. Atop this list of citizen concerns are your safety and so I have used all the states money to rebuild the walls and re-arm our forces. From this day forth let it be known that the tax's shall never reach higher than this. So speaks I and so shall it be done, for mine is the word, the power and the right. May we be guided by her glorious light. In the name of Siamorphe citizens I shall ask for guidance to lead you into a new age of prosperity!
Little else of import happens upon the month of Hogshoof.

Meadbar

QuoteMeadbar 4th.In a very peculiar state of events five female bodies are found hanging from a tree not far from the main route out of the Citadel Fantastic. Even more peculiar is that each had their eyes plucked out. The state calls for the Chalice to investigate so they send a small detachment of Aspirants and an Acolyte.

QuoteMeadbar 8th.
No more bodies are found and rumour spreads that the Chalice found the source of these murders and the culprit was executed. The truth in the matter is that these citizens were sacrificed to a demonic god known as Orcus, this god was the same whom had orchestrated the loss upon the black day. The cultists whom had performed the sacrifices were put to the flames of Siamorphe and their souls now await Kelemvor's judgement.
QuoteMeadbar 16th.
An envoy from the mainland has arrived in Rigmard, this day see's the start of a lucrative trading deal with the mainland cities. Tax's fall and food is given freely to the commoners, also the Aspirants whom had dealt with the cultists are announced into the Chalice fully. They gave their oath and a celebration was held within the grand hall of Siamorphe, even now I still remember that sweet suckling boar the Citadel's hunters had caught for them.
QuoteMeadbar 17th.
The envoy from the mainland is seen off from the piers by a group of nobles and commoners. Word has spread through the commoners that the Envoy left with some form of religious artefact. This is true in a form as Lord Duke Imotel Rigmard did entrust with the envoy a pure silver and gold replica of Siamorphe's very own chalice worth some hundred thousand gold coins.
QuoteMeadbar 22.
A herald from the northern part of isle arrives say his village has seen Coast Guard ships off in the sea. Most dismiss this as fictional as the Coast Guard was destroyed when Muhktar was slain
QuoteMeadbar 23rd.
A detachment of Militia and Infantry are sent to the supposed sightings just encase they hold some merit. Crime rates across the city fall over night as the lower quarter is exceptionally quite.
QuoteMeadbar 24th.
A herald from the north returns again this time he bears a helm that was once part of the Coast Guard uniform. This proof that the traitors have returned provoked immediate action from the state. Half the Infantry and a good part of the Militia was sent north alongside Guardians and Acolytes of the Chalice.
QuoteMeadbar 27th.
No word from the north in three days. The citizen's grow weary yet the state remains adamant that the force they sent was strong enough for the task.
QuoteMeadbar 28th.
In a drastic turn of events an envoy from the Coast Guard approuched the city, he spoke that the force had been slain and any whom were spared now bolster their own ranks. He asked the state if they wished to surrender, this was naturally and honourably declined. In the name of Umberlee he declared the city reduced to the waves before the end of Uren.
These accounts are continued in Book IV. May you understand what the Chalice has been through and how she still remains with us to this day, untarnished, undefeated and unbreakable. May you walk the true path and be smiled upon by all. Regula Noble, walk safely for I shall be your shield this day.

Book IV

These days we should never forget, be you of any land.

QuoteMeadbar 30th.
The day the fighting began.
In the streets of lower, they came. Swordsmen, axemen and pikemen, darkness had consumed them. Blades of wicked iron that shone a glaring red in the bright sun, by Siamorphe we should of died that day. We did not.
In ranks of three we marched, side by side. The memory is as clear as the candle flame beside me, the smell still sharp as it was at the day, the sharp taste of blood in your mouth.
Umberlee is not know as the bitch queen for no reason. She is truly a selfish merciless bitch who rules her domain with an iron grip similar as to bane would have wished a kingdom ruled, it's a surprise that they have not become wedded yet. Her followers washed within the streets killing, pillaging and repeatedly performing rape.
The lower quarter was first to fall, they had numbers far more than I can remember. More like Orc.
They had a new leader now a divine messenger of Umberlee herself they said, he wasn't he was a cleric of Cyric known as Marshall Tambour.
The Chalice was sent to repel them, so we did for a time. Forming a line around the gates to bolster the remaining Militia and Infantry. We held them at the gates to the Upper Quarter for a time, however their dark blessings soon broke through and we were faced with an increasingly difficult task.
QuoteMeadbar 31st
It was raining as this day was born, still in the light of the moon we fought them. Steel met steel and blessing met blessing in the Upper Plaza where we had retreated too, the Militia was gone the last man bearing those colours was hanging from a gate in Lower.
His name was Jack Bishton.
We had a handful of Infantry and an equal number of Acolytes/Guardians. Lord Duke Rigmard had employed his own personal retainers to the field, six men clad in pure silver armour. They held off the bulk while we the remainder flanked. We stood resilient to all pushes that they could give, from behind I remember the call for the citizens to seek defence in the Citadel's lower chambers.

The raiders were thinning now, where there had been hundreds there now were handfuls surging towards the plaza. We could hold, by Siamorphe we could hold. That was when Marshall spoke.
He had arrived with a small number of men clad fully in dark mail from head to toe, upon this mail layer they wore a foul smelling torn black and red robe. No, not red that was blood, a bloodstained robed. A record of what Marshall said can be found below. After he had spoken they charged the chain clad men moving to attack the retainers with an unnatural speed. Marshall himself with each footstep glowed with more of a sinister light, his mace emitting a spine chilling moan as he raised it to strike.

I do not wish to place to record what befell in this battle, know however that the Retainers were slain to the last and the remainder retreated into the Citadel's great hall where we barricaded the door and were protected for the night.

Uren

QuoteUren 1st. The day our city burned and Rigmard was reforged.
It was noon when we started to smell it, the burning. It was odd for Umberlee to employ fire. There was no doubt about it, confirmed from the lookouts. The city was ablaze, from the look of it the inferno as it was now raging had started from the Upper Clockworkers, that was only two streets from the black powder supplier of the city. It was not long before the blaze reached the supplier and an ear shattering explosion rocked the citadel, during this event we located Marshall and his men, he was preaching to a large gathering that currently wasn't pillaging in Upper Plaza.
So a plan was formed and the Chalice called Siamorphe for all the aid she could, every man who could use blade was armed. The rest were hidden in the caverns that the Citadel was built upon.

The plan was a simple one, we could charge and die honourably in a fitting noble death or we would retake the city in one sweep.
Lord Duke Rigmard had taken personal charge of the reclaiming charge, he was clad in Mithril plate a gift from his dwarven friends.

At his side hung in it's scabbard was Aunthorix the Avenger. A blade forged by a celestial in the House of the Triad. It was blessed with it's own personality and wrath, the wrath of noble right.
As the doors open he bellowed a cry one that I shall not forget for as long as I live. "This day my people is as good as any other to die, so let us! Not! Die! In! Vain! To Victory my friends, to redemption!" They charged. First the gates to Upper were reclaimed then the corrupt Marshall was charged. The foul spawn was impaled by the Lord Duke himself, the scream of pleasure erupting from Aunthorix was soul shaking. It took pleasure in slaying evil.

The Lord Duke himself was a stalwart Champion of Siamorphe then even more so, he glowed with divine blessings. His eyes alight with the flame of zeal, his blade alight with the flame of redemption.
We washed through the city reclaiming the quarters easily. Leaderless they ran, they ran from the oncoming redemption. Perhaps they only saw him as death, either way they ran.
The Chalice manned the walls that night, depleted in number. The blaze had burnt itself out just short of the Lower Quarter, we manned and watched the forest's. While behind us the remaining commoners picked up their life from the ruins.
We are their shield against the night, darkness and the shade. We will not falter. For their sake.
And so from these dark times came the time of re-building. Where we all reflected upon what had happened and rebuilt. There cannot be time to stand still in the defence of the innocent, for a moment of laxity spawns a life time of heresy and darkness. We are the commoner's shield.

Book V

It is taught that when light waxes that it washes away sin.

QuoteUren 2nd
The Lord Duke Rigmard set up a small council to vote upon what happens next. Meanwhile the commoners have already started to salvage food and water from the ruins, these are placed in the central plaza of lower.

QuoteUren 4th
The council was formed and their first vote was taken. The future of the city shall start in lower where they will rebuild the houses and the walls.

QuoteUren 6th
The Chalice brethren inducted fifteen new aspirants today, each was taught the lessons of discipline and mind iron. Their new lives are gone, merely training grounds for what is to come.

QuoteUren 18th
The walls are coming along well, little of import has happened since the 6th. More grain and foodstuffs have been found. We currently have enough for two weeks. Maybe.

QuoteUren 22nd
A small band of remaining Sea Guard were seen off by the Chalice at the gate, Brother Acolyte Grundragon was slain may Siamorphe allow him to drink from her chalice at the table of Noble Rule. On another note four of the Aspirants showed great valour. Especially one Castian Davis an aspirant of the Acolytes. He was summed before the chaptermaster at once, given the seal of courage and sent to the Scion Richards to be full sanctioned into the Order.

Little else of import happened in Uren after this.

Marth

QuoteMarth 6th.
Word came from the coast that the mainland had sent a trading ship full of cargo. In the current state it was welcomed and it's whole stock was purchased. This greatly improves the life for the commoners.

QuoteMarth 9th
The outer walls are completed and manned by the Chalice. The lower quarter has been restored to it's former self with the population rising each day. Food is secure and stable as new farm's have been founded. However Upper still remains in ruins.

QuoteMarth 10th.
Another vote was passed and the local Militia was reformed. To any whom joined the Militia they would receive extra food and a set of chains. From the initial twenty whom entered, almost tripled over the coming week.

QuoteMarth 11th.
A new road was established between the outlying farms and the city. Problems such as bandits and highwaymen are still around however.

QuoteMarth 17th.
This day is glorious for it see's the induction of another six Aspirants into the Chalice proper. Another ten commoners also joined the Aspirant's hoping to join the Guardians. For every one of us, we shall defend and shield another hundred of them.

QuoteMarth 18.
One of the farm's was ransacked this day, the culprit is yet to be found. People start to worry if we have enough food for the growing population.

QuoteMarth 20th.
It seams a small band of bandits had taken over a ruined tower a little south of the farm. The connections are obvious so a small taskforce of Chalice Brethren were sent to deal with the problem.

QuoteMarth 22nd.
The taskforce returns with two cart loads of beverages and food. A celebration parade was had in the efforts of the Chalice in the past months and weeks.

QuoteMarth 23rd.
The Militia have taken over manning the walls and defending the gate. This leaves the chalice to help rebuild the city.

Roaringwind

QuoteRoaringwind 1st.
As per tradition an assortment of gold and silver items were given to the various churches of various gods on this day. This tradition is known as Passover. The reason this is done is to be protected from ill omens and the "Roaringwind" a dragon that slumbers far to the south of the Citadel.

QuoteRoaringwind 5th.
The rebuilding of Upper is going very well. Currently we have rebuilt the merchant sector and rebuilt a few homes. Another trade ship should be bound to dock in the coming days, as supplies for construction are dwindling.

QuoteRoaringwind 12th
Another ship from the mainland has arrived full of supplies. It was quickly bartered with and once more emptied. The supplies were attacked on the way back to the keep, however thanks to a guard of Chalice Aspirants and Militia the food and construction supplies were kept safe.

QuoteRoaringwind 13th.
The supplies were set to good use and the construction of Upper remains at a steady flow. A few more food caches were found today amongst the ruins. Things do seam to be coming along well.

QuoteRoaringwind 15th.
A small band of Orc's attacked the gate's today, the Militia saw them off from the walls. Laying down bolt after bolt. The orcan corpses litter the killzone before the walls. The commoners were for the most part unaware this even occurred.

QuoteRoaringwind 16th.
The Chalice was sent to defend the main road from the Coast to the City. Check points and small camps have been made along it's length. The commoners have now named this road, Victory road.

QuoteRoaringwind 24th.
Little of Import has happened apart from the first snowfall. With the first snow settling the people worry if there is enough room, warmth and food to see them through.

QuoteRoaringwind 26th.
The remaining Chalice who live within the City have been tasked with gathering more food. Also a large pyre has been set up in the centre of the plaza in lower. Many families that have no home huddle near it for warmth.
Icestar

QuoteIcestar 2nd.
The month of ice is upon the city. Many have died due to the cold already, there seams to be just not enough warmth and shelter to go around.

QuoteIcestar 3rd.
Another attack at the gates by orcs. This time the commoners knew about it as they breached the gates. The remaining Chalice and Militia had to push them back while the nearest Chalice outpost attacked from behind. All in all few commoners died and few Militia. It was a small horde.

QuoteIcestar 6th.
More people have died due to the cold. However on a brighter note the Chalice has secured the people more food and the Lord Duke has arranged for his Dwarven Allies to bring up some of their magical Hearths that always burn with intense heat.

QuoteIcestar 14th.
Another ship has arrived from the mainland. It brings a message that they shall be unable to sail to the island for the next few months. It however brings much needed supplies and food.

QuoteIcestar 20th
It nears a festive date where the whole city shall be present. As such a date is coming closer, Upper has been re-built and the Infantry reformed. The Militia has regained some of it's former strength. The Chalice however has nearly doubled in size. The days ahead are glorious.
These are the books of recent History, they are out dated as my travels took me from my land, however know this year was unlike any other. For this was the darkest year of them all. May I be your shield from the shades.
