So, today I went with a group to do the Orc quest for the first time. Being my first time, I had no idea what to expect, but everything I've done up to this point had seemed pretty fun.

Then there was this.. the Orcs.. We were doing well, for a little while.. until they just began -swarming- us.. And the lag began to mount.. There was one called a "Chosen" of some such, which I thought was a boss, but after we killed it, there was another, and another.. I think someone said there ended up being four or some such? But in any case.. Before I knew it, lag was so horrible we couldn't even make a run for it. One second I'm running for the exit, the next I'm back where I started and surrounded.

I had plenty of healing potions, and was not withholding in using them. But before I knew it, I had crashed.. Someone else had craashed as well, and when I logged back on, we had -all- died..

Now.. I'm always up for a challenge.. And this was hard.. But the lag made it impossible to even escape.. and crashing for two of us was just instant death. This server is hard, and dying is harsh.. So I really think this quest should be looked at as far as the total number of Orcs that spawn at once, and reducing some area effects or some such.. Because I must admit. My rage from dying with a ton of healing potions and losing such a large amount of XP and not being able to do anything about it, is great. It brings "Fuuuuuu" to mind.

The invasion system probably just needs to be cleaned up / reworked to be more efficient. It's always been a source of lag and has a few loopholes as well.

You would really have to be more specific about how many players, animal companions and summons there were and how many Orcs there were for anyone to make a proper assessment from what you've said. Were you killing all the orcs fast enough or were they slowly building up numbers on you? Some party members may not have been pulling their weight.

The Chosen are powerful Orc Heroes, AFAIK if you had several of them spawning you must have had a high lvl party or been accompanied by a lot of summons, which also AFAIK increase the spawns somewhat.

If there were so many Orcs that it caused two of you to crash there are several things that could have happened. The two that crashed need better computers/connections. The server was experiencing problems, you were doing the quest while another resource heavy quest/event was happening or the server had a lot of players on it. Orcs is a very resource heavy quest.

Bringing 8-9 PCs on that quest is indeed very dangerous PARTICULARLY if your group is weak (which, from a quick glance at the logs, it was). I just adjusted the max quest limit to a party size of six, and wouldn't recommend more than 4-5, but no doubt people will be asking us to adjust it back soon enough.

The first one sucks, Victor, but keep up the good work!

I believe I was the highest level PC there, at L7. I did it before with what I believe was an on-average higher level group in numbers and didn't have this spawn off like this. I think it's a bug in the system.

But really... one Gathamar I don't mind, it's a good "WTF" push to keep good teams on edge, but when multiple spawn it starts to get crazy. Two was pushing it and doable, but the third one tanked us real good.

May want to look at the shamans as well; every single one of them slinging a dispel really makes the quest harder, especially without summons to soak up the damage.

Zing!

Anyway, I've seen worse runs of orcs, in terms of spawns (bugged or otherwise). I would say our run was just a little over typical for a party size of eight. But I can imagine how even lowest-spawn-rate run of this quest would cause older machines to run at a crawl.

Well, I might think it's worth noting that using a ton of healing doesn't always ensure that you'll live through everything.

The chosen are mercyless, but a strong group can handle them. I think i have a screenshot where we were fighting four at a time, and we won. However, if the server is laggy, you can't do much about it. You're dead.
