PRC Mechanical Requisites

I propose several adjustments to the various PRC mechanical prerequisites, similar to how Champion of Torm was reworked to have less pidgeonholed requirements;

BLACKGUARD: Removal of Cleave feat, removal of Hide skill (greatly expands number of different build options - and the feats/skill requirements make no IC sense)

WEAPONMASTER: Removal of Dodge/Mobility/Spring Attack/Whirlwind Attack (allows for DEX based Weaponmaster builds which do not benefit at all from Spring Attack due to Tumble, and Dual Wield/Double Weapon WM builds which would have the feats to spare...just generally opens up lots more options!)

SHIFTER: Removal of Alertness (seems completely random)

SHADOWDANCER: Remove Dodge/Mobility (kills the PRC from a mechanical standpoint, not to mention almost every SD build will have Tumble...since its a prerequisite skill)

DWARVEN DEFENDER: Removal of Dodge (seemingly unfitting, especially if one of the key abilities of the class is becoming an immobile dwarf fortress)

To play a PrC, you need to have an application approved, amass the required roleplay prestige in game, then be wanded. This leaves PrC acquisition completely in the hands of DMs. And so it stands to reason that if these suggestions were applied, and some PCs came up with bizarre or stupid feat/build combinations that didn't appropriately fit the PrC, they would be denied the option. But generally, I think this would greatly increase variety in the types of different PCs that could take different PrCs.

Variety is good!

The DMs tried it, it required overrides and kept breaking. Therefore we are back to the default PRCs. PrCs are rare, but they happen. The benefits both mechanical and in DM attention outway the more fixed build. I've seen PCs with or close to getting each of those classes in my time on EfU:A. The only one I've not heard of in ages is Shadowdancer.

If you've got a good concept for a PrC, try talking to one of our old-time players about a build that satifies the mechanical requirements while staying true to your concept. For starters, a pure Fighter or Barbarian can go Blackguard at L8 by simply taking 5 Cross-Class Hide ranks at L7. A Human or a PC with Ranger levels can take Weapon Master dual wielding without trouble, and they have. With that class, what you are apping for is partly the class abilities, but also the guarantee of an overpowered kick-ass signature weapon to balance out all the feats you spent.

Thanks for the tips, will definitely search out some old-time players for some advice. . .

I played dual wield WM.

Anything is pretty much possible, despite the restrictions and requirements - if you have a concept and solid idea. You can always discuss with DM's, and work for something IG and earn a chance to it.

Not to mention, all the classes you have mentioned are something that require a solid IC reputation, earning and work anyhow. I am certain that a solid concept can earn what ever might be required to get it done properly. They are not for everyone, however. It wouldn't be a prestige class otherwise.

Removing this stuff would be great, but I am uncertain of the possibility.

If the DMs want to remove the requirements but it is technically complex, I have one idea.  Would it be possible to leto in the required skills and feats onto the character, or would that create an illegal character?

Editing characters one at a time is a pain, but there would not be all that many prcs, would there?

Made me giggle. ;)

Would be wonderful to see these changes put in, if possible. If not done through overrides, it could simply be advertised that they aren't required and given through leto either in form of the requirements, or the class itself even.

I only suggested this because I recalled Scotty once saying it was relatively easy to do.

If there were more wizard PRCs we'd be able to con Johannes into doing it.
