Okay so I just decided to buy a game because I haven't bought a new one in like 5 months. So I bought both the dragon ages, and I was wondering which class/background is the most fun to play? Right now I'm playing a noble human fighter. Its fun. I'm just wondering your suggestions. Thanks.

Divine Intervention

I played a human Mage on both games and enjoyed the class a lot.  By far the best Mage secondary class on DA:O would be arcane warrior.

I feel like the city elf Origin is probably one of the worst ones there, to be absolutely honest. It doesn't really tie in too much with the other places that you go and get access to, whereas some of the others have NPC's that you'll see and interact with again from your Origin. As for classes, the best one for your PC to be is probably Mage, but you can make due with any of the other combinations.

Okay so I guess I'm not to the part where you take a secondary class. But I do like the sound of the Mage/fighter. I bought the $5 disk that comes with some special content. I just haven't put it in yet. When do you get a second class?

First play I went through as a dwarf noble fighter that was good, however honestly you can get far more customization out of a mage in DA:O than anything else. As for DA2 I can't really say, I played about 15 minutes of it and got sorta >:(

My only suggestion is to not play the sequel.

Thank you guys. I'll try all different types, but yeah, I'll try a dwarf next. Any information on Rogues would be good. Are they fun and challenging. Or just not fun?

I bought both. But I'm on DA: O now.

I would highly suggest going a Duel wield rogue and going for damage (and using assassin/duelist) or doing a Mage-Arcane Warrior.

Rogues are damage-based classes that let the tank hold aggro while they go behind the enemy for backstab damage. There's basically two types of viable rogues, those being dual-wielding and archery. From a completely power gaming perspective, dual-wielding rogues are going to be far better than dual-wielding warriors because of various bonuses they get, whereas archers are more of a utility damage dealing class. However, DA:O isn't a very difficult game unless you're playing on Nightmare, and even then it isn't really that bad. You can choose whatever class you want and go with it for the simple fact that your NPC's will fill all the other positions.

However, the reason that Mage is generally the best PC class is because there are so many things you can do with a mage and Wynne and Morrigan can only do so many things. In fact, I'd argue that the easiest classes to beat the game with would be three mages and a tank, because they just have so many damn things that they can do.

In terms of rogues, though, I feel like Leliana fills your roguish needs quite nicely. If you keep consistent with giving her gifts and either befriending or romancing her, she gets a huge boost to her cunning, which does wonders for a dual-wielding rogue's damage. Otherwise, she makes a good utility archer. Zevran is pretty solid, too. The only PC I didn't like was Sten, so you're pretty good wherever you go on this one.

Basically, tl;dr DO WHAT YOU WANT, YOU CAN'T GO WRONG.

Just make sure you get taunt and shit for your tank or you're going to have some serious issues.
