My question is, as a fan of dnd druids, is this possible to achieve in game by "simply" asking a DM nicely?

If it is, than there is no reason to implemet this feature, as you could call a DM and talk to him why and how you intend to use it.

There's always arguments to script new features.

Change weather is a level 7 spell. Something to invoke it would require cost in either ritual ingredients, time, concentration, prestige, and so on...

you axed for it

L7 spell? Crazy.

I was thinking of just calling in localized weather, a small storm on the coast or creation of fog on a patch of sea or some rain over a small farm of crops...

Is the change weather spell global/island wide, or what?

Drakill Tannan

Maybe with a high cost. Experience points or something.

I've seen this spell on another PW. It was server-wide, because I think that was the only way they could script it, but locally would be far better. The spell was rather annoying in a way, though, because there were 'weather wars' whereby people would just continually change the weather back and forth.

That said, I do like the idea of a change weather spell, especially if it could be scripted to be locally only.

Well, the suggestion was certainly not to script a level 7 spell, but rather to grant something neat to Druids and weather priests for effect.  If the duration and area of effect were nerfed down, and if it were given similar RP constraints as Raise Dead, I could see it as a level 5 spell.

I approve of this 100%!

I've seen scripts where putting on armor would take you a full round. A script could be made to where casting this particular spell would take a longer period of time than normal casting.

Or, alternatively, casters could receive 100% spell failure for some duration being that the spell cost such a hefty draw from either the weave or their god.

If it's done, it should be a -really- long spell and require reagents. I'm thinking like three or so minutes worth of casting. This is changing the weather on most of the island, if I'm reading this right. If only for Call Lightning spam avoidance

I remember a long time ago some details of a weathermancer prestige class being written, some of the specific abilities of that being available would be pretty cool.

It is relly easy to script in fact.  I would suggest working on a new pack of spells before a release though, as you'd end up with multiple versions of the override floating about.

I agree, just for the simple fact that the spell 'Call Lightning' is a very useless rank 3 spell.  The DM team wont allow it to be regular with no rain and it's modified version when raining, which makes sense to me.  As it stands now, it either rains a shit load or doesn't at all.  One zone away it may be raining and then the next it wont be, this is usually for QAs.  The ability for a druid or perhaps a cleric with a certain domain like 'Storms' would greatly enhance the server.

Thread Necromancy.  Make this.  Make it a level 5 Spell, and make it only affect a single area for a set duration (8 hours or something).  Additionally, if casting the spell causes a shout to occur to alert everyone to freak weather in a certain area, so much the better.
