NWN3: Still No News

Dungeons and Dragons: Daggerdale: Released today. 4.0 utilizing diablo-like hack and slash.

It's about as terrible as you'd expect, bland graphics, boring quests, tepid storyline and voice work. Oh, and you can only progress to lvl 10. Have fun with that.

One to miss, folks.

Yeah Daggerdale looks truly awful. And that's coming from someone who has no problems with playing (and, shock horror, ROLEPLAYING) with 4th edition.

xXCrystal_Rose

I could probably tolerate all its flaws if there was a nice storyline behind it. Doesn't appear to be the case though. I mean it doesn't look -too- terrible, though it doesn't look like d&d. More like a generic dungeon crawl thing.

chezcaliente

Yeah didn't mean so much from a graphics perspective as a generic dungeon crawl without much (if any) story.

I find it unfortunate that the best things about the DnD IP, namely imaginative, collaborative storytelling, are often abandoned when it is used as the basis for a computer game. Or at least generally have been since the days of Baldur's Gate et al. Mask of the Betrayer for NWN2 came close, as there were definitely multiple ways to play that expansion, and making choices closed off other choices etc.

As Dungeons and Dragons: Daggerdale is available through Xbox Live Arcade, it was never going to be anything of any real value. It is what it is, a $15 game with little to no content.

Sounds like they have been on EFU and learned a thing or too. Wonder if they can implement any of it.

Rock Paper Shotgun has a brief peice on Neverwinter, I dropped in to school people on what Neverwinter truly means and name drop EFU:A, I encourage you all to do the same.

Neverwinter by cryptic is old news, though we shall see what happens to it since it was sold by Atari and bought by some.. Korean? company. Can't remember if it was Korean.

I honestly don't got much expectations for Cryptic games, the least bit of neverwinter that they descripe to be.. Not MMO, and neither normal multiplayer RPG. They had their own name for it but I can't remember it now. Read it months and months ago.

Korean MMO makers Perfect World, yes. Perfect World isn't so bad as far as Korean companies go, their games are a bit less on the evil soul destroying side as the unncountable other Korean MMO's.

I know the story your talking about, it was on the escapist, I don't think they had the word for it back then. From the sounds of it it was "Singleplayer with a multiplayer component", probably something along the lines of Infamous 2's create and share mission system

chezcaliente

Yeah Neverwinter is relatively old news, but today they finally launched some screenshots and their brief E3 trailer.

I'm looking forward to it... I like that the focus will be on PnP DnD style quests which require a small party to complete in collaboration. Massively multiplayer inns and public spaces, but all questing is done like EfU's quest system.... and the Foundry UGC system has the potential to be excellent as well. But all just potential so far.

Daggerdale is such a giant piece of crap not even the most hardcore D&D fan could like it.

That trailer from Neverwinter reveals that the editor is really like.  A "mission" editor like from city of heroes.  No PWs for us, sadly.
