Was going to come out with a massive ranting on good being evil and evil being good but i think it can all be asked with this

Have we stopped caring about our setting?

Spiffy Has

I don't know. I cared enough to make a PC and spend 4 years playing.

I think it rings quite clear that the players here continue to care for the setting, otherwise they wouldn't continue to roll characters and become so involved in the storyline and setting of the server.

I'm not sure I really understand the point of the question.

Bearic

There's far more focus on lawful and chaotic with factions, sure, but um, good and evil are usually played correctly, just far more evil than good on the server, or neutral at the very least.

SkillFocuspwn

I think EfU takes a linear good/evil scale and makes it open to interpretation. Different players and different characters can be taken and have entirely different meanings of good and evil; one Paladin could be an incorruptible beacon of light and purely good while another could be a gritty, get the job done soldier fighting for his cause! Or you could play one to show the incompatibility of the gritty, super realistic setting and the idea of a higher good.

Basically what I am saying is that alignment is open to interpretation and the character itself is far more important than playing Good or Evil in the way one player deems correctly. Most people do it for effect or to give their character depth and having an interesting character that is good (or even amazing) to RP with is much better than playing good 'right'.

I hope this aims anywhere near what you were talking about!

I think when the lines of good and evil blur it all becomes more intresting.

That must be why 63.5% of your characters are neutral.

Money's Dew

I am always neutral so that depending on influences I can pick which side to go.

Actually, yes. And i do it for the same reason stated above.

I actually disagree, SfP!  In Forgotten Realms, good and evil are not open to interpretation; they are set in stone.

Capricious

In my opinion it's much better to focus on character goals, beliefs, and political, racial and religious loyalties to define who your character opposes, and what they stand for. Alignment is a very rough guideline, and takes a second seat to these other factors.

Equinox

Alignment is just a representation of your most common methods of approach to situations.

Good/Evil take a backseat to Law and Chaos though on efu i find.
