It's rich and vibrant as a part of EFU's setting. I'm currently playing a PC who spawns there as well as spends some time there though with limited PC interaction that's kept short. I hope soon to begin making trips back and forth but I just thought I'd use this post to highlight Old Port as a whole.

It gives Ymph and old west feel as the colony is such a massive frontier land comparatively. That mystical land of opportunity and more lax laws where a fella can kill a man over harsh words in a tavern if he is so inclined. With that come a ton of cool concept ideas.

Some non-application ideas: A hunter heading to Ymph to get rich off the sweet hides of Saber Tigers and the flesh of Stargazer slaves. A failed merchant hoping for his last big score in the ever nebulous trading sphere that adventurers bring. A swordsman tired of the oppressive rule of the Count and wanting to apply his mercenary trade in a gray area to the highest bidder. A Dwarf tired of the Xenophoia seeking refuge amongst the Fellhammer. An explorer and archeologist hoping to find treasure in the ruins of the old jungle.

Some "Special Background" application ideas: A Cleric of Umberlee setting out from the Cathedral to spread the word to the unwashed masses like the old spanish missions of the Americas. A wizard on the run pursuing sanctuary within the Conclave from the Old Port Guard as an outlaw. A runaway slave heading for the Docks in pursuit of a new life.

It adds a ton of simple flavor to a PC's background and allows a lot of cool interaction with the Server itself on a whole beyond simply saying "Yes I'm from random nation, the portal brought me here". If you've played more than one or two PCs on EFU all you need to do is see if a DM is free to unlock the portal in the starting area (Unless your background needs an app)

Divine Intervention

Having played a cleric of Umberlee with the church background I will say that it adds a lot to the pc.  As is said above you are not just portal rat #2372688.  You've got authority, respect and an interesting backstory.  Not to mention the perk of old port citizenship which gives you some cool rights.

I'm totally for Old Port characters (thinking of rolling one), just not too much for Old Port activity. The server is already scattered, with small separate settlements (Nature, Order, Dominion, Docks...), so, having an Old Port character who for whatever reason is settled in Ymph, is cool
