Quite simply after putting a quaterstaff to use on efu i have found it to be extremely weak. With the changes made its:
1d6/1d3(x19/20)
unlike what a traditional double ended weopon would be. So quite simply i suggest its changed to:
1d6/1d6(x19/20)
to make it a more viable weapon. Its already weak enough as it is what with the natural -ab that comes with using a double ended weapon.

Egon the Monkey

Yeah, I'd agree because it's not *really* a Simple weapon. If you're using it, you either have to acquire one with bonus feats or take 2 feats to use it, which is more than a bastardsword takes. The doublesword would still be better as an Exotic weapon, although this would put it on a par with the diremace effectively. 1d6 20x crit on both ends would seem a good balance.

Howlando

I don't think we can.

Disco

A staff is one of the simplest weapons in history (Only beatn by the club) Imo it should be changed back to the way it used to work. That is being a simple weapon that do not requier several feats to use.

Howlando

I like it as a double weapon.

Nuclear Catastrophe

I love though, how all you guys (who never used the quarterstaff as a weapon when it was just the good ol' staff) DEMAND it be changed back.

I can tell you I can never, not once recall a PC using the staff as it was.

It was a niche weapon then, and it's a niche weapon now.  And I like it better as it is now, in fact, I think it would be cool if someone built their character AROUND this instead of complaining on the forums to change it back to something they'd never use anyway.

It's a shame that it's 1d3 on the off hand strike, it really is, but think of the cool-points you score for making it work.

I can recall one high level barbarian. Aesthetically though its a double weapon and I prefer it as such. Historically its a simple weapon but to master it takes a lot of finesse and practice.

I know Jaerok (Troglodyte) in the UD of the cave wyrm clan made use of a quarterstaff, and he was a pure barbarian. Old man franco did the same on the surface.

Shamtastic

Just for the record, as martial weapons go, irl, the staff is both effective, and devastating both offensively and defensively. I have trained in it's use for several years, and can attest to both, being on the recieving  end and the delivering end of it.  It rivals any bladed weapon, and can hold multiple attackers easily at bay.  It also takes ALOT of practice to master with any degree of skill. The way it currently is scripted seems very accurate to me. Just my two cents worth.

Also, because it's a large weapon it gets a 'hidden' 1.5x damage multiplier. So the damage is really on par with duel shortswords or something of that nature. I've found it to be a REALLY effective weapon when used right on EFU, and in all likelyhood it'll be the weapon of choice on my next concept.  It shouldn't be changed in the least.

No it doesn't.

GoblinSapper

Yes it does. It's 2handed, it gets 1.5x str modifier added to it's dmg. This may not apply to the offhand, however.

Ideal

For a minute there I thought you mean 1.5x on ALL damage.

At any rate, I wanted to make a staff character about a month ago for the coolness factor, but I didn't want to give up the feats and stats for dual-wielding, or wander around without my weapon of choice until I found one kitted with the two feats I'd need to be able to swing an awesomestick around. Just to put that out there in the 'underused' debate.

And it might be worth pointing out that the change came in March 26th, 2010, according to the forum post. Just over 11 months ago.
