Setting traps seems to break not only invisibility but stealth too making it a quick means to death, im suggesting change it so it doesnt break stealth

help us rogues out yo

Porkolt

TBH setting traps in sight of enemies probably isnt a very good idea to begin with.

Luke Danger

I think that invis shouldn't be broken, but regular steath, yes, it should be.

Relinquish

Kind of prevents setting traps on peoples feet while in stealth.

BRESTON

I want a stealth ability to tie someones shoe laces together so that if they try to walk after me they have a 50% reduced movespeed for 15 seconds, or if they try to run they fall over and get dazed for five.

Damien

ya totally, i was talking about trying to set a trap ontop where someone is standing and not around a corner or ahead of them

Egon the Monkey

Don't try and creep up and drop a Strong Negative Trap in someone's underpants? It's got me before when I thought I'd subdue both people in a fight by dropping a trap in front of where they were heading. If you could drop traps out stealth you could blow people up without them seeing who did it if you were sneaky enough.

It might be cool though if there were other devices that used Set Trap and could be used in addition to your two legal traps. Dunno what, advanced grenadelikes maybe?

Jasede

Back when trapping didn't break stealth you actually saw people use them on quests.

Bring it back.

The Beggar

Yes please. I love using traps on quests.

Egon the Monkey

Might be better if it didn't break invis but did break stealth, like Luke Danger suggests. That way, you could have a PC invis you for quests, and you could trap people under their noses in PVP too, but the counter would be fairly trivial so it wouldn't be a case of not having a clue what hit you.

I know players complain everyone sees them, but that's more that there's a good chance someone will spot you due to masses of rolls. Buffed up stealthbuilds can get crazy high scores and I could see a ranger cheesing the hell out of undetectable trapping, especially if you have 2 trappers.

Or, could it be set up so that setting a trap doesn't break stealth or invis, but someone activating your snare will break your stealth. That way you can set and run. Possibly -10 stealth when you're setting a trap? I dunno.

Sure, if you know someone's trapping the area, the counter I suppose is to run away before they can stealth back up. Not sure how well it'd work in practice though.

Keep in mind that when you come out of stealth you're standing up. So you could very easily place a trap a few yards in front of someone and provoke an attack causing them to run straight int your deadly trap. So it's not really that huge of a deal that you get revealed.

As for on quests, traps have always been geared towards downing individual or very small groups of targets. They can do this just fine in thier current incarnation. In fact ai is even easier to trick into stepping on your trap just by appearing in front of it!

And then the orcs shoot you to death, FPW, the end.

Why does trapping break stealth?

One_With_Nature

I see no problem with how it is having played many trappers. If you're setting traps for someone who is within visual range, you're doing something wrong imo. Set trap > Stealth/Invis > Attack from Hiding.

If you're trying to trap ranged static mobs you deserve to die and then some.
