BhaalBaby

Brief Overview

This is a cult dedicated to the god of murder. Their purpose is restoring the god of murder to prominence on the archipelago and scouring the ruins for ways to resurrect him. My own PC has an extremely lawful bent and single minded philosophy of only seeking out, crushing, and controlling those that have murdered / killed others. Though he himself has no problem with the act of murder, and would welcome and encourage it, he believes that it must be a controlled act only gifted to those that pay tithe and respect to Bhaal. He believes he is Bhaal's servant and heir and therefore the enforcer of this philosophy.

The goals

The goals of this player faction would include:

1.) Investigating the deaths of any PCs (or NPCs on the isle) and  finding if proper respect was given to Bhaal, and if it was lacking, executing the guilty party.

2.) Collect tithes from those that would hunt and kill others with the blessing of Bhaal, and grant forgiveness for murders of passion that were unplanned.

3.) Rein in the clergy and followers of Loviatar and Talona who once served Bhaal, and force them to serve once more.

4.) Extol the virtues of pantheism and make all people recognize that for the single moment of killing another they may pay homage to many gods, but chief amongst them is Bhaal (or cyric, but we're trying to steer people away from that!) and he must be paid his dues.

5.) Add real consequences to those that heedlessly FD others by hunting them down and brutally slaying them.

6.) Provide contracts sealed with death. If either party breaches the contract's rules, the cult of Bhaal will step in to eradicate them.

7.) And many more...

Who can be involved?

I could see many players getting involved, and not all of a wholly evil nature. From investigators, officious bureaucrats, cute secretaries to assassins, torturers, poisoners, aggrieved victims of murder, and scholarly sorts interested in the resurrection of gods.

Thanks for reading!

I assume expect insane amounts of pvp?
I would think assasin are wanted for this?

BhaalBaby

I don't think PvP is important at all to any concept unless you want it to be. You will probably draw the ire of some goody two shoes cyrcist, but that is the risk of playing any PC.

Fat officious bureaucrats, merchants wishing to profit off the dead, rare artifact hunters...

If you feel you could play a stylish assassin then by all means I'd say go for it!

Underbard

This really sounds awesome.  Nuff said.

GoblinSapper

BhaalBaby, I totally want insors.

Remember, Bhaal had allies. This could turn into something bigger.

This could turn into the return of the Dead Three

BhaalBaby

You want to get hunted by everyone and turn people's hatred into FEAR by killing people that don't pay nominally small sums of gold... until they buck up or pay some respect...

d(0_0)b <----------  Talk to that guy.

BhaalBaby

To be quite honest I expected a bit more of a reasoned response to ending people's lives vs paying a small sum of gold, but it seems that most people would rather their PC die or roll the dice on trying to avoid that fate, than pay. This has left a sour US vs THEM feeling that I never wished for this concept, and I think that will only go away when a fierce reputation has been established. Right now I fear the concept will unfortunately face a slew of pvp as people keep killing others, and people keep attacking my PC. This is fine, but if anyone wants to get involved in this concept... I think you'll find very little mercy from anyone for your PCs. Just a warning! I think the whole server is quite bloated and ready to kill PCs that upset the status quo at the drop of a hat. This is fine. Yet if you want to rock the boat you just have to plan on not dying and furthermore if the boat tips over and you must upset everyone-- upset them into a bath of chocolate that is far more delicious than the cracker they were sailing on before...

The only PCs that I ever plan to kill are those that enter PvP against me (like, THEY ATTACK ME) and those that have KILLED OTHER PCs. There's always ways to escape this fate, even should you attack me or kill another for perfectly excellent reasons (and there are many!) for a nominal fee of gold or service or something else to be worked out between the cult and you, you may walk around like you're kurt cobain. If your PC though is built around being a brutal enforcer of some faction and you're TOTALLY OPPOSED TO VENERATING OTHER GODS then we'll just have to roll the dice and see who's more brutal. (me)

Porkolt

I for one am not at all surprised about PCs not taking very kindly to being extorted by a distasteful worshipper of a dead god.

GoblinSapper

Also, fights were picked with factions. But this is probably not the place to discuss this stuff.

Never-Again

I believe the reason this faction has become an "us versus them" concept is because of the very nature of EfU. It is a conflict oriented server designed to pit major factions against each other. As a result the major faction characters have most likely entered into some type of pvp at one point or another. Now you have a faction that has dedicated itself to pvping the major faction characters. It is hardly surprising it developed into an us versus them atmosphere. Especially given the tactics used IG by the cult. As for the coins part of it, those are not nominal sums of money for the most part. They may seem that way to the very rich characters, but I would wager 3k for most characters on the server is a very large sum.

I am sure the cult has some goals associated with it that are not common knowledge. However, from what I have seen the perception is that it is a pvp cult focused on knocking off the more established characters. If your wondering how this developed, that is my two cents.

TheMacPanther

As someone who deals with the cult on a regular basis I can say that their is a LOT more to do with them than simple PVP and killings of everyone under the sun.

Killers with a code, remember that Bhaal is Lawful evil and not Chaotic Evil. Every time someone dies it is for a reason.

Random_White_Guy

I for one love it. As a PC who is trying to be diplomatic and placate things in a lot of ways with the political factions on ymph, the faction has risen quickly and turned into a lot of intrigue based plotting.

It's a far alternative from "Knocking off the most established PCs", and I can firsthand speak to the amount of shady dealing, intrigue, and more that results from this kind of faction. They took something that people are very sensitive about, and at times even horrified of, and turned it on its head.

PCs are often afraid of getting "Ganked", but this isn't ganking. It's often very stellar and courteously RP'd murder, and the PCs involved take great steps to ensure there's ample chance to avoid it, and well RP'd out.

It's great to see a group that can make even criminals shake in their boots, as EFU criminals have a history of kinda being very swagger heavy. It sets up a great line between "I'm just a criminal" vs. "Holy shit that's just fucking -evil-".

On the plus side controversy and discussion like this naturally increases interest, so hopefully they can keep on rocking.

Never-Again

That was my point, I am sure there is much more to the cult than pvp. However, I believe general perception is that it is pvp focused. That is why I believe it has become an "us versus them atmosphere" as of late. As for the attacks themselves, I wasnt arguing they were not avoidable or in poor taste OOC. My point was when they do come about, they are done in a way that can make characters who see them turn against the cult.

One_With_Nature

Tbh. Awesome Concept, and i think its been executed in a really fun way. I would advise more people to sign up.

Keep on Rocking.

Thegoldflows

This faction has many goals and expands far beyond what may be seen on the very outside of it by some. People may debate that in this "Us vs Them" argument, yet that is likely because this cult is simply not allied with any of the primary powers and often must fight them (defensively at most times) to succeed.

Most of the gold sums are pitiful and only increase as the IC conflict has grown, often starting at 200 gold and expanding in a way that is seen fitting. I would go out on a limb and say that the core of the issue is actually that people are more attached to their character's wealth and gains than they are to the character itself. There is almost always a way out and being unwilling to accept that is not to the fault of this cult I think.

This is not a debate however and I urge anyone willing to try out a new angle with this faction! :)
