I have compiled a list of positives and negatives post the nerf to evards to aid me in this thread. They are as follows: -

Positives: Killed SPOILER, small pcs are near immune to its damage. Can cause paralysis.

Negative: Each tentacle only does 1d6 + 4 dmg, which if seperated means blur will be able to negate most of the damage. I've seen atleast 3 items with evard immunity I think... that are standard quest drops and as far as I can tell no other spell has items with immunity to it aside from like magic missile. The fact small pcs are nearly immune to it is also a negative if you fight anything small. Freedom of movement makes you completely immune to it, even the damage.

I understand that it was broken but giving a nerf also makes it completely useless. Compare it to other spells of the same level like ice storm, missile storm.  Ice storm at level 7 does 3d6 bludgeoning damage 3d6 ice damage AND evasion doesnt help and missile storm does what 7d6 and is magical damage.

Also not to mention most frontlining chars have 10 fort unbuffed which gives like 50% success rate.

so i ask dmz plz to be reconsidering

If you don't think it's useful, don't use it.

And just wait until we implement the player-specific nerfs to make all spells/abilities/combat rolls 50% as effective just to make it more challenging for you, Griff.

Each tendril still counts as +2 griff, know your mechanics!

Yeah, as far as I know they've never actually counted as +2 weapons as intended. It's a bug in the game, not the script according to NWNWiki. Just tested in game, and the tentacles definitely don't go through blurs DR. The only real way I could think to fix it would be to change the damage type from bludgeoning to magical.

FishyBusiness

Such would make stoneskin useless against it, unfortunately.

Originally, the tentacles were -supposed- to surpass x/+1 DR, being +2 themselves. So such silly 75gp potions wouldnt make it redundant, but stoneskin would fully negate the damage.

Oh, and on this matter - it wasn't fixed properly - it doesn't add Spellcraft to the save VS paralysis, did some testing earlier.

Evards is still a useful spell. It is more likely now to stun targets, for instance, even for just a round. Additionally it still can do the same amount of damage which is upwards of 40-50 against a wizard that is not protected by damage resistance. Which most wizards are not.

That it has a level 2 soft counter is a good thing. It joins such spells as -- oh,  every other 1-4 wizard spell in the game.

That equal level spells counter it is not uncommon for many spells in the game.

Immunity Evards loot should be removed from drop tables.

This spell has been broken for ages. Finally it gets a fix that gives it utility and balance.
