Francis Offbit - Living a Lie

The longest living Sons PC ever is dead. Of course, him living the longest is not much to boast about.

Francis Offbit was a chain-smoking Cyricist with a knack for intrigues. He was also a great lover of wine, having gathered a collection of about 10 varieties (some extremely rare) in his personal wine cabinet, located inside the Sons HQ.

And a liar. A big, fat, liar. You wouldn't believe how many lies he told. Even to me, what was true and what wasn't with Offbit became a blur. There were days where I considered him a secret loyalist, other days I considered him a loyal Son. Some days he was an evil, heartless bastard, others a righteous, self-sacrificing idealist. Sometimes even both at once.

Originally concepted as an antipode to the increasingly LG-directed trend in the Docks (what with the Ilmatari, and the Pallid Mask wanting to take up residence at the time), Offbit quickly found himself smack dab in the middle of the webs of intrigue that surrounded the Sons. Later, the Docks regained their chaotic nature and evil-mindedness, and the treaty was abolished. In what became an all-out war, Offbit lost his function, and eventually turned into nothing more than a sour and ineffective thug. In a Mist Essence-induced rush, he finally decided to send himself into the Mists.

Though I probably could've gotten a lot more out of it, for me, it's been a great run. Special thanks to all the other Sons, Laddermen, Black Harpers (notably Elera), Caius Drayden (broz4lyfe), all the Stygians for never even attacking me, DM Talir for overall guidance, DM Howland for a great finish.

Also, for any of you still wondering wether he actually did or didn't sacrifice that child during the ritual in the arena - well, you should get a clue by now.

Here follow screenshots.

Being a spy.

Offbit liked giving subtle hints about his faith, but was never open about it.

A special friend.

This wasn't very fair. We ended up with 11 coins to flip. His chances of survival at that point were 1 in 2048.

Haha, dumbass.

Though Offbit may not have been very intimidating...

...he was one hell of a storyteller. Even though those were all lies.

Offbit and Drayden shared a remarkable relationship. Though, officially, they were enemies, Offbit often (ab)used Drayden's affinity with the Docks to get him to do stuff, or make him feel guilty. He had a great admiration of Drayden, though, seeing him as one big contradiction in the web of lies that the world consists of.

An intimidating meeting.

Offbit was only a bit full of himself.

Facing the end.

Again, thanks to everyone who helped make this character so much fun to play. See you... Out there!

EDIT: Ooh! Almost forgot to give special thanks to mr. Charles Maurice de Talleyrand-Périgord for being an awesome historical figure and being a big inspiration for this PC.

Offbit was a lot of fun to be around.  Elera knew well who and what he was.. one of the few that knew well his Faith, and was not afraid to use it when it suited her.

Great run, can't wait to see what you do next.

Derdric Psalms knew it all along

One_With_Nature

Well played sir, interesting character.

It is coming...

Nice PC, Porkolt. Time for you to return to your roots in the Order, afaik! ;)

Divine Intervention

Very well played, both my Paladin and my cleric of helm were forced to endure his criticisms and argumentative nature.  I'm sort of surprised he was a cyricist as I always assumed he was a maskarran from done subtle clues.

FishyBusiness

Awesome PC! Lovely ending, too! ;)

Darkfire's Delight

How good an informant, always knowing what the Sons and gangs were up to. Well played.

Canzah

Cool stuff yo. Really.

Dustiferous

I'm pretty new, so I didn't see much of your character's career, but following him around the wilderness as he looked for the Forest was a really amazing opportunity, and I'll remember it fondly (and regret not having a cooler character to go with you).

I'm glad you got a cool retirement for your character, even if it wasn't the kind you thought he'd face when you started him.

The Old Hack

So long, Offbit, and thanks for all the tall tales :)

I actually have something else in mind first, but after that, sure!

EfUA_undercover

I had very little chances to play with him, but still I can say: Very well done, Sir!

Ruby_EfU

Offbit was amazing. I always knew there was something really sinister about him. Such an interesting character to be around!

Hate for making joining the Sons so hard, though >_>

Egon the Monkey

There are lies, there are damn lies, and then there was Offbit. Well played. had my money on Maskarran too, there.
