Reduce regeration on imps in the Netherese Observatory

I can only assume that you've got it cranked up to 5 / round, because I've never seen anything so ridiculous. Even with constant thrashing from a greatsword plus spells, the suckers can recover full health just from regeneration alone.

They are programmed to cast healing on themselves, but their regen is so high that the act of healing actually leaves them worse off than if they just sat there and steadily attacked.

They are great badguys, and I don't want to see that quest made too easy, but could the regeneration on the imps be turned down to, I don't know, 3 / round or something?

You're claiming imps are redic powerful? True, the regen and SR effectively makes AOE spells a waste, but you just need to swat them down one at a time. Imps is done enough there's no problem.

Bearic

Yeah, it would make it easier for the lower levels 3-5, but as long as you have a good party with either a couple mages, and fighters, it's easy enough.

It's kind of like the yellow shoe monsters, though; without a magic weapon spell, you're gonna have a hard time. Just like how shield/blur and magic weapon make imps right easy.

Imps is metagamed enough there's that there's no problem you mean. It's an old issue really, but has been nearly balanced around that issue! Without metagaming the need for magic weapon, and the means to deflect certain assaults in a few areas it's almost a death trap. Toning it down (and double checking the rewards while at it) might make it more fitting, but it's also fine as is due to the previously mentioned balance.

Yalta

Off topic, but maybe put a tablet outside witha a lore check so you can RP finding out some clues as to what is inside and avoid the temptation to meta-game whats inside?

BrittanyPanthas

Magic weapon is used on almost every quest out there. Its very standard, so I hardly consider it metagaming unless a group member explicitly demands it as a condition for them coming, or talk to the group about what is within.

Howlando

They all just have +2 regeneration.

Some clue that the observatory is filled with dangerous outsiders might be appropriate, but I agree that it's usually safe to assume in Ymph that horrible stuff lurks in most places.

Portal Rat

Hmm. How in the world were they healing so fast? The warrior I was with was averaging about 15 dmg a hit. We used so many single-use consumables just to advance to the next room that I was about 20 lbs lighter coming out of the quest.

We had magic weapon trinkets, too, though we didn't start using them until we were already inside.

I've done that quest dozens of times and I never found it to be that difficult before. Hard, yes, but this was crazy tough. Maybe it was a fluke; I seem ot have a had a run of bad luck lately.

Thomas_Not_very_wise

This quest could use an NPC to describe what the players might be heading into. Could give a reward of one coin, a beggar kid giving it.

Like the one in Dunwarren, you know.

TheImpossibleDream

This seems very strange. I find it hard to believe your warrior was hitting them for 15 damage a hit and they were regenerating too fast for him. Maybe he was only hitting them once every 5 or 6 rounds with 1 attack per round though.

This quest has always seemed very balanced with a fair reward to me. As for needing some npc to tell you that you may need the ~most essential adventuring spell magic weapon~ seems a bit silly.

Portal Rat

Well, if the regen is only 2 per round, then the problem is clearly on my end, and not with the quest. I swear it seemed like it was higher, though.

Underbard

If I was going to metagame anything on this quest, it would be blur, not magic weapon.  Without blur, this can be a consumable draining little quest for a low level PC.
