Of Recent Lag

As of v1051, some major initial work has gone into trying to reduce lag.

Things to keep an eye on -

- Since a decent number of areas/NPCs have been removed, please let us know if anything is not as it should be

- Continue to let us know about incidents of bad lag, particularly lag spikes (when lots of people are disconnected). If you happen to notice anything happening immediately before this, that would also be helpful to report. For example - using any kind of complicated system, fighting certain kinds of NPCs, etc.

- I've dropped more "trash hole" placeables around the mod, it might be helpful if you could try to keep things tidy a bit and pick up any dropped items. As an example, I considered removing Orc Teeth as a potential drop from orcs, but then realized that might make alchemists rather unhappy

- Whenever you see a NPC stuck in combat animation, or bobbing up and down, that is basically a bad sign. If you can think of examples where the NPC AI is getting tied up doing weird things, or complicated things, please report it.

In the docks after the Mist Raider incursion (most recent one) I saw the on of the Dog Fighter NPC's running by the Sending tower in the Docks. He seemed to have gotten stuck, by the barrow wights camp, and kept trying to walk thru a fence. I thought it was possessed by a DM at first, and part of some plotline or another, but now, in hindsight, perhaps it was moved during the battle, and trying to get back to it's spot, using faulty pathing?  Not sure if it causes lag,but was definitely odd behavior.

Please don't remove orc teeth, but making ordinary Nightrisers not drop Skeleton Knuckles would be very beneficial IMO. They really lag up Longest Night as an extreme example, not to mention that Evil PCs who'd be using a lot of Knuckles can't *do* Longest Night. Knuckles are a quite powerful reagent as far as I'm aware, but the supply exceeds demand hugely. Make them drop only off Riser Guards instead IMO.

QuoteEvil PCs who'd be using a lot of Knuckles can't *do*

This is true, might as well remove them from the quest if it causes lag.

Lately the majority of my lag has been from my side not the servers - so at least for US West, I'd assume things are really good lag-wise.

The only time i have gotten lag is with npc conversations this was a few days ago so i do not know if it has changed since then but that is only lag i get

Lenthis

... The demand of knuckles is still high.. so I dont know what you people be sayen.

Nightshadow

How about the boss on said quest just drops a box full of them, and the box has a description saying "No, this monster did not have a box of knuckles on him, this box is a representation of you spending time going around to all the corpses and harvesting said knuckles, and this box exists solely to help reduce lag."

Egon the Monkey

The point is more that a quest that specifically blocks Evil/necromantic players probably isn't worth dropping a ton of necromantic reagents on since most parties will have nobody who will be using them as major summoning/alchemy reagents.

EfUA_undercover

How about adding a trash-hole to said quest like on trogs? If people aren't totally lazy and care for server performance they might just take the knuckles, when they check the corpses anyway, and drop them in the trash after.

This way some people are still able to collect the knuckles and others can take care that the remains don't lag up the server.

Howlando

Has anyone experienced lag recently?

Disco

I had some wird 1sec lag spikes about 1houer from now.

Egon the Monkey

Yes. Completely awful lag, resulting in my PC being unresponsive for 30 seconds and dying before he literally knew what hit him, and despite another player claiming he saw me heal up successfully.

Zymnarkmar

Servers been darn laggy of late. Lots of teleporting around the screen, both my PC and NPC enemies.

Paha

Very laggy currently.

Lumiere

Not really laggy at transitions, but when you try to walk across an area your PC come about walking like a crab. 22:30 GMT+1,
