Nightshadow

As you can see there, I cast it on a charmed sailor, and he failed his save. I held still, doing nothing at all, and was completely undamaged. Some harpies cast their captivating song but I was immune to it, but somehow my concentration broke, from something..

Also it seems to only deal 1 point of damage, but this is the first time I cast it and it worked.

I later went on to the Tower of Mercy quest, and cast this on a boss there. It lasted until he died (poor guy, so many low rolls in a row), still, I never saw the damage go above 8. For a level 3 spell it seems remarkably weak. It requires concentration (hold person doesn't, and lasts longer, even black blade of disaster lets you move) and deals hardly any damage (it could add up over time, dealing a moderate amount, but I'd rather throw some magic missiles to deal 3 or 4 times this spell's damage in a single casting), so I'm guessing its low damage is a bug, or I am having ridiculous bad luck with damage.

Anyway, if there is a bug on the concentration thing, I think it has to do with being attacked or affected by any hostile action.

Drakill Tannan

Could have happened due to summons, you had any at the moment?

Decimate_The_Weak

I personally, regardless of the level of the spell, don't want to see it get any stronger. Basically, it's like hold person, but you're able to damage the target. In an invis-gank, or other one-on-one interaction, it's pretty deadly.

Giving it more damage will only make it stronger. I think it's fine how it is as far as damage goes, but however, if there's actually a bug that caused you to break your concentration (which I don't see a roll for), then that should atleast be seen to.

Nightshadow

I have to disagree with you there, DTW. It's not like hold person. You get a fortitude save EVERY ROUND. With hold person, it's one will save (which most characters have a relatively low score on). If you want both damage and stunning, you go with Electric Loop, a level 2 spell that though it has 2 saves, reflex and will, can both go high and the spell will deal more damage, overall. If you want a fort based stun, go with ghoul touch. Despite its 'touch' range, the actual limit of this is outside the AoO range and if you do this carefully you won't have problems with getting cut up as you cast it.

This spell crushes someone's heart. 1 point of damage is like a rat biting you in the sewers (sometimes they do even more). It should be 2d6+caster level per round, like an improved combust, almost. It's level 3, but as useful as a level 1 spell.

In any event, concentration rolls for any actions other than moving, spellcasting or attacking (such as being hit) for continuing the spell's effectiveness would be nice.

Howlando

The spell is extremely powerful. It's a fort based stun that lasts a long time and cuts right through PFA. I'm almost worried it's too good. We'll see.

Drakill Tannan

It's also a fortitude save -4, right?

Nightshadow

It's a straight up fortitude save. It's strong against some enemies. Though I hadn't thought about the PfA thing, and that's pretty good (though Ghoul Touch does the same thing, but enemies immune to poison are similarly immune to it). It's just my opinion that what seems to be 1d8 damage per round is kind of weak for a spell that supposedly crushes someone's heart.

It's still a decent spell, and fun, like the other new spells. Maybe I'm just greedy, but I feel that a lot of these new spells aren't as strong as they could/should be.

The Crimson Magician

if it's too weak don't use it. I think it's a really cool alternative though

Baggie

I do not believe it cuts through PfA. I tested this with a wizard earlier. Unless that's changed.

Johannes

It's not 1d8 damage per round! It's 1d3
