Personally I look to play in atagonistic roles, peole who either fight the power, abuse the power or undermine the power.

Play anythign that you think is cool, don't let others dictate to you what or where you should play. Play your pc well, RP the STATS. You wouldn't believe how far that alone will get you, if you have 8 wis, get known as that dude who is up for a fight no matter what the opponent or w/e. Read the thread of RPing your stats by Mort.

Rally people to your cause, or if you dont think you're ready for that yet. Join someone elses cause! trust me there are adozens of pcs who can use extra help, in the form of henchmen or whatever.

Be that badass fighter with a rep for taking no shit from anyone. Be that scholar who writes books all day and flees from a fight. Being well known and respected doesnt mean be the biggest pvp whore around. Learn the game, the mechanics, the rp. And plots/badassery/memorableness will come your way in due time.
