Hey everybody. Some of you know me, some of you don't, but I cone here to ask a question. This might not be the right place to put this thread, but I thought, why not.

Okay so my question is, how do I make a character that's long living, and makes their name known in efu history? I've had characters that -some- people know, but Many times that character dies or loses it's concept. So if you all would be so kind to give me ideas on how to live long, maybe even a concept or two, please do. I'm a desperate man. :\

Read the thread, "How to rock my socks off."

I've read that before I'm just not good at concept building. Every time I make a character it's either a support character for my friend. Or just a character with no backstory. I just make it up. And like I'm horrible with FR lore so that makes it oodles worse

Vlaid

I've found every character I needed an application to play, either by race or faction, I found exceptionally more engaging and fleshed out than any character I just hit the create button and went with it on.

Join a faction.  Also I know very little about FR lore and i've never found it that inconvienient.

Yeah. Well your a hack. You don't need anything but a computer to be Ownage.

A concept is easy to come up with, just think... Necromancer? Knight? Assassin? Devout Priest? Druid? Then think of a goal, just one, something to get you started, then it will just grow from there.

Joining a faction, making friends, never shying away from conflict that is IC for your character to partake in, and things like that help move you along. If you've questions about FR lore, I'm fairly knowledgeable, PM me.

A long time ago, someone had put a link into the ancient EFU forums which I had saved.

Okay, it talks of villain creation but the concepting strategy holds for any type of character.

This may give you some ideas on making the character though it does go into too much story telling for just making a PC, but it will help to organize your thoughts and goals.

Accept that things change and consider changing with the flow.  Maybe your PC is better suited to the faction that is going to show up next week or next month, there is no need to give up on him too soon.

The Sons of Sabuth are doing big things man.

I don't recommend making a character just for joining a faction. Rather, make a character and if IC events lead you there you'll know you fit in, belong and overall will have more fun, I think (that's just been my experience). Of course, there are some exceptions, such as group concepts that start off together (like the new group of elves running around), or dwarves joining Fellhammer Hold.

You could always have a character that writes something; the books of the library stay around far longer than any character, and their writer's names might not be thought of much necessarily, but they're there.

TNVW's link to Howland's post is really spot on.

I would be careful about assuming that to make a memorable character, one must be long lived. Frankly, there isn't a strong relation between the two. Furthermore, there's a difference between memorable and well-known. Memorable characters may not necessarily be widely known, but that doesn't make them any less awesome. Some characters may be very well known, but that doesn't necessarily make them worth a damn.

That being said, don't get too worried about either issue. Play a character that you enjoy, for a length of time that you enjoy. Examples are abundant where short-lived characters did incredibly awesome stuff, even when they fail to reach their goals (classic RwG character story). To me, such short-lived stories aren't fun because they often don't have time to develop too elaborately.

If, however, you are interested in playing a character that both lasts for some time and has a big impact on the game world-- be ready for a steep challenge! EfU and EfUA have had a rich history of such great stories with intertwining characters (don't forget, one character makes an impact only because the rest of us react a certain way!) that it is in some ways tougher now than ever to really bust out and do something memorable (although, arguably, new resources make it easier as well).

The best way to get immediately involved in server-wide plots is to join a DM faction. The biggest way to control your own destiny/longevity is to create and lead (in some degree) a PC faction. The latter is where I tend to have the most fun, being either the leader or his/her lieutenant. It also tends to motivate me to stay alive so that I can see all my ally PCs come to interesting conclusions! Of course, we all have different preferences. Take some time to think about what you liked and didn't like about past PCs, and apply that to a new concept. Always, always, always feel free to approach fellow players about concepts. It's a great way to get a sounding board of ideas and have an opportunity to feed off of other's creativity to inspire your own. If you're looking for someone, feel free to shoot me a PM if I'm around.

I see some good advice here but I think Garem said it best:

Quotedon't get too worried about either issue. Play a character that you enjoy, for a length of time that you enjoy.

If you play a character you like you'll be more motivated to see him succeed and live. The bottom line is that the more fun you're having, the more fun people around you will have, and the more they will remember your character (and be less likely to kill you).

lilacwine

Surround yourself with as many people as possible - people that love and hate you.

You'll have much more fun with people trying to kill you and worship you than meandering about on your own.

Craig210

Engage in conflict.

I dont mean pvp at every oppertunity. The server has many major areas, which within them has plenty of conflict. Spreading yourself between them all is fun, but at the same time can make your character short lived.

Pick an area, and focus on it. Have goals, large gaols to work towards and small goals that are needed to achieve the bigger picture. Bring people to you, allies or enemies. The moment you start doing something noteable people will take an interest, join you or try to stop you.

PLaying a villain or a hero there isnt much difference, if you market yourself well people will pay attention.

That said, if you want to join a docks concept, feel free to pm me on irrc, forums or just hunt me down ig.

Rock out man.
