Suggestion: Crafting System

All right, since a lot of players started making craftspeople, it may be time to implement a crafting system.

I suggest that certain items (In Example: Ruined Chain) can be salvaged with the proper equipment into raw materials (such as iron ore), which can then be refined at say, a forge, into a ingot or bar (for example, a bar of iron or an iron ignot), then used at the same forge to create say, a suit of chain mail.

But to actually use a forge, you need to send a app in or something so the DM's are aware you can forge items and approve of it.

This way the DM's can both track characters that are active and using a forge (I suggest that they have to pay the forge owner to use it if it's a NPC owned one), and that NPC's wont even consider letting your PC use the forge unless you've been given a special Out-of-Character token or such that lets you actually use a forge. Of course it'll most likely be kept to non-magical gear for the sake of balance without DM supervision or a secretive recipie with some fairly endearing requirements.

experimentaion will most likely have to be kept to DM supervision, and the DM's can later implement a succesful experiment, or can pre-limit what experiments can be done, but the former should definitly be considered when a new idea presents itself.

So, ideas, criticisms, suggestions? This is only a rough, but I think that if we all consider every angle, I think this could be a good idea to implement. But again, it's the DM's discretion at the end, so whatever they're decision, I'll respect it.

I'm going to try and dispel the illusion that "implementing a crafting system" is something you just do. Arkov spent about three effective months on the plant/recipe system, now consider the resources we have available at the moment.

There is not going to be a crafting system. There will never be a crafting system. Not beyond what we already have. We have stated multiple times why we're not using BioWare's crafting system -- well, incidentally, a feasible alternative isn't so easily developed (we don't even have ideas yet).

Wasn't there some kind of token system for artisans under discussion somewhere? Is that taking form somehow?
