Yes i agree, because not all of them are 'monsters' some are civilised and mean no harm at all, like the goblin fisher at the shore, i myself would play as a goblin as i also like the sense of humour.

However i have a habit of writing apps wrong haha. if they where made non-app i would play as a goblin also.

Kobolds, goblins, and stargazers are indeed very easy to get approved, if you are interested. =)

The Crimson Magician

nobody ever wants to play them, though, because they all die within 30 seconds of being created, and they require applications. =(

Well, I was mulling over the idea of a badass team of goblins to be the Army of the Squat at some point. Kobolds may be weak as hell (Naga powerbuild bard/fighters excepted) but goblin -2 CHA is no great penalty. If you want to play one, I'd suggest a group app based around a bunch of Squat goblins who are won't get simply ganked alone.

Listen in Silence

Gank them all together. Save you some time.

Goblins are awfully weak, yes. But if 4 people where to make goblins at the same time, and with some luck they might reach  a decent level and some decent loot, then they could be alive for some time, provided they kept a low profile untill ready to wreak havok.

Maybe if they were ECL -1 they would be able to level fast enough not to get killed.

Ghyrrt.

Goblins do not need ecl -1 lol.

You app to play a goblin because you are apping for the challenge. if you dont like it, play a halfling imo.

I enjoy the challenge. It is just that sometimes, it's not challenge, it is a dice roll that involves the mood of your fellow players.

When i played the Wild Orc i realised how hard it MPCs had it. You can do everything right and play it safetly, and it certianly is challening, however, when your 3 player party of levels 3 & 4 is spotted and hunted down that that 5 PC party of levels 5-7, there is little to be done besides logging out.

I am not saying there should be a way to stop this, this hunts are what make MPCs challening and fun, but they should be somehow given enough time to stand a chance. Most MPCs are rather strong, so by the time they are level 4, they already have this chance. Goblins aren't, in fact, they are weaker than regular PCs generally, so they need a LOT more time to stand a chance, and PCs don't wait for that long, making goblins dead before they can do -something-.

So, no, i still think ECL -1 would be good for them.

Ghyrrt was TRB's goblin who was very strong.

Basically he killed a bunch of PCs and was the Prince of Lower at one point after Montezzi.

So LiS is saying that Goblins are little mini-wrecking balls since they get even more bonuses than a halfling, Albeit that they are hunted down more often.

They don't need help, a monster is to be treated as a monster and a monster who becomes a notorious villain is that much more legendary

Hmm. Thomas. Who are you to speak of another player in this really offensive manner?

Temporary forum ban, that's who.

Thomas_Not_very_wise

Ow. Apologies to TRB, and thanks for editing the post Mort.

I wonder if the person or people who think goblins ecl should be -1 noticed the stats goblins get -2 str -2 cha +2 dex +2 hide and move silent (in addition to small stature) vs oh say Kobold (one I played recently) -4 str -2 con +2 dex dodge feat (the site lists them differently but apparently those are the correct stats!)

I'd also add that I managed to get to level 9 with that kobold. It wasn't easy, I had to serve, fight and  grovel at the feet of many cruel folk. In addition to rarely entering town, even gobsquat was a rare visit for me (kobolds hate goblins and vice versa!)

The races need to stay app only, they're not hard to apply for really. All thats expected of you is that you have a basic grasp of what the critters are all about and are prepared to portray them as they are supposed to be protrayed.

DEEKIN's player would be castrated by your average d&d dm and then told to play a gnome or halfling bard instead. He is a prime example of a monster in a setting where the dm just doesn't care!

Well with kobolds being my favorite race to play overall and with all the intrigue I got into with Grommet I dont think that monsters should get anything more than they already have which is a unique and awesome roleplay persona.

And to those people who say kobolds are underpowered, Grommet singlehandedly took over the Thayan Enclave after Canos left, got a slave, and ordered his share of assassinations and powerplays(none of which went well) and even ended up working for the Armada and Sons...until he got found out and brutally murdered. This is probably one of my best examples of what a mpc can do next to Ghyyrt. Oh and apologies if this is seen as a major toot on my own horn.
