My opinion on IRC:

This doesn't have anything (I was just as wrong as anyone else imo) to do with my discussion today. I just feel like IRC has become a place that detracts from EfU in general. This isn't aimed at 'trolling' or 'loitering' or anything - I just feel that for it to be (at least for me) a valid communication tool, it needs to be used only when necessary - IE, to contact DMs/players about specific IC events. Other than that it just becomes generally distracting and frustrating. I feel like no one (myself included) is fully able to prevent IC stuff from bleeding into IRC; I also feel like people could get more involved with the game, if they have the free time (again, not pointing any fingers, this is a matter for each of us to meditate upon silently and privately - and it is not meant as an oblique reference to the high number of people who loiter on IRC but obviously can't/don't want to play EfU right now) and less involved with IRC.

My opinion, feel free to disagree; I'm not interested in a debate though.

If you don't want to see people chatting in IRC then either don't use it, learn to ignore people, or create your own channel.

I think Kiaring's point was that it destracts away from EFU, the game. Everyday I see more people dribbling useless shit in #efu than I see PCs online. I remember when people only really talked in IRC when they weren't playing their PCs; now its people play their PCs when they don't talk in IRC. Have a guess at which was actually a better situation.

Well, I'm sure there are reasons for such things but whatever. It's IRC, people use it to chat. If they don't have time or don't feel like playing it really shouldn't matter.

Excuse me... What?

Let's ban chatting and only allow EFU related questions. Then we don't have to listen to any more useless shit drivel from scum and people will login to game more often to a more pure and undistracted experience. Problem solved.

I thought people enjoyed my idle chatter in IRC?

IDK, Talking about other stuff gives a sense of community instead of "Just a bunch of strangers you game with"

I've only been around for about 3 years now, but IRC has always been pretty much what it is.

There are days it gets to be to much and I just walk away, then there are days that I look forward to the useless dribble.  *shrugs*

It is what it is.

'Banning' chatter in IRC would be pointless; people would just set up another IRC channel for chatting about EFU, likely not moderated by the DM team. A worse state of affairs, IMO.

I can kind of understand Kiarings point of view. Many a time the server has had like, 5 people online whereas a good dozen or so are chatting away on IRC.

However, this is the internet. We're free to do what we want. Yes, its hard to find good RP when people would rather idle the chatroom for trolling/arguing/baiting DRD, but we can't stop that as its human nature.

If anything, the problem is with either the server or the individual for not being on the server.

It is true people chat a lot but people may be doing other things.  Take for example yesterday I was on the toolset and talking irc, sometimes i just don't have time to finish anything if i log in.

AfroMullet

If people rather chat on IRC than log into EfU, I think it says more about their interest in their character than IRC.

if you don't feel like playing on efu instead of talking then obviously you have a huge problem
