Familiars cannot be spoken to; at least, mine can't. He won't follow me, or attack, or any of that when told to with the radial menu. In fact, the only way to control him now is the Control Companion tool.

Additionally! While possessing my familiar I am unable to use ANY placeables. That includes placeable transitions. :(

Edit: It is the Rat familiar.

Howlando

This is troubling, do other familiars have this issue?

Snoteye

(Confirmation that this was not the case before the new familiars, plz?)

Cruzel

(Familiars cannot use items normally, the placeables thing is not a bug!)

putrid_plum

My animal companion is the same way, cannot speak to it and bring up the menue.  I reported it before but, might as well stick in here too.

Cruzel

(It sounds like they have not been set to commandable, maybe?)

Use   SetCommandable, imo.

Gullible Righteousness

When I take out my familiar, I can't do anything with it, except recall it, or possess it, making a chore for it to follow around. Can't make it follow at all.

Actually, mine too, is the rat familiar, and I can't use the placeables either. It's been like this for some time, I believe. >_>

Pretty sure we can't even change that behaviour. And I'm still looking for confirmation that this unresponsiveness is new. Somebody must have played one of the relevant classes long enough to comment.

Cruzel

I played one awhile ago - (Kurt)  Familiars worked fine for commands.
last ranger I had with a companion was Vilmar, and they worked for him too.

That means it's a new bug, but I can't say exactly -how- new :P

Oskar Maxon

It is not possible to speak to companions. Have tried the island leopard and the panther.

Cruzel

Wolf companion works fine, commandable and conversation. Tried it today.

Snoteye

They do not seem to have conversation files attached. Here's for hoping there's a faster way to change that than manually modifying 200 files.

LackofCertainty

You can't "talk" to your familiar, but you can still do just about everything you could do with their conversations via the familiar's radial menu. >_>

Use the radial menu peoples! :p

Edit: It is the Rat familiar.
Whether or not they have conversations is less relevant than whether or not they have the proper AI. Their script sets may also need to be corrected. This is no small feat (200 familiars and 33 or so companion modifications), but is best done in the toolset (where the AI set can be saved as a preset and loaded onto other creatures). Might as well take care of both, whoever can do it.

Edit: It's very important you NOT make sweeping generalizations about what works and what doesn't; the familiars were made by at least two different people, and the companions were mostly modifications of the already-existing creatures. We should only try to fix what's actually broken, to save time and avoid breakin' what's workin'.

*inserts foot into mouth*

Missed that bit.

To add useful information then, I use the Bat Familiar, which has no conversation, but can be controlled normally via the radial menu.
