Strange Bugs

My character Sava Haun is experiencing two strange bugs.  

1) I cannot speak to or control my familiar.  I attempted to PC tool it + quickslot, but with no luck.  Additionally, I cannot control it off the familiar or side bar either.

2) My character is a human wizard.  However anytime I equip a Quarterstaff, it give me a -4/-8 attack per round.  I have attempted change out quarterstaffs, as well as restarting.   No luck.  However, when I equip a dagger it is just fine.

Any help would be welcomed.

The quarterstaff is because the weapon has been changed to act as a dual wield weapon.

Ah.  Thanks TheImpossibleDream.  I guess that makes sense for the quarterstaff, even though it will suck for spellcasters. I wonder what the deal is with the familiar?

It would help to specify which familiar, you know.

As box said, Familiar type would be bare minimum.

The level your character is/was when you first noticed this behavior would also be of great help.

And if it has happened with any other level of familiar.

It is the rat familar and I am not sure about the other familars.
