Rock Bottom wasn't really... that good. It had a sweet basement, but that's all.

Kingsman DOES need private rooms though.

Two words: Waiting line.

Put a bouncer NPC and a waiting line outside the kingsman. Much like the Gobsquat Gate, 5-10 gold or persuade can "get you in" infront of the line.

These NPCs can spam questions, complaints, etc, much like the Waitress, and cut down on "Let's loiter outside the Kingsman" PCs.

It'd be seen as uncool to be stuck outside with the bitching peasants, so everyone would want to get inside.

Patricians would naturally be "On a list" and not have to pay the 5 gold bribe or persuade to get in.

Patrician only VIP section, with some cool Patrician NPCs and such, where as the other "Regular" section is filled with portal rats/etc lost and wandering.

Private rooms with curtains, a table and 6 stools, for meatings, alike in the gobsquat would also be nice, so if you have a private meeting with a bunch of peeps, you dont need to go in a bedroom and hover around wondering if it will all end in some spicey orgy.

I agree so much with OP, but I've never seen any server that didn't have this problem. The two hotpots for PCs on every NWN server in the history of ever are: 1) right outside the tavern and 2) right outside the gate.

The reason for this, I think, is that both areas serve as a crossroads. If you were sitting inside Kingsman's, you wouldn't see any of the people passing through. Put simply, you are much more likely to see PCs if you are outside.

My proposal: collapse rubble around the Southwest corner of the ziggurat so that the area is inaccessible. That little corner gets a ton of foot traffic, and if you block it off the Kingsman's suddenly becomes the shortest route to and from the Gobsquat. And like OP says, put seats outside and make people buy drinks if they want to congregate out there.

Maybe something like this:
B=Bar
G=Garden

BBBBBBBB
B      B
GGGGGGGG

Entrance

And maybe put Kingsman/Peters in the hall with the rooms, so that every time someone wants to rest or turn in a quest, they aren't spamming the bar patrons.

The real problem with the Kingsman's is that you can't carry out a conversation in there. Especially not with the waitress in the inn (unless she's been removed/fixed recently).

I'll see about possibly doing this, myself, unless a DM is vehemently opposed to me changing it this way.

Who are you and what have you done with Scotty?

Caddies

This suggestion doesn't tackle the core issue, which is that people will mill around doing nothing in between quests in some area instead of working on plotting, goals and generally just being proactive. For example there are a certain few necromancers around at the moment who, when not questing, can ordinarily be found in the Gobsquat/Sewers/other shady places discussing necromantic research and experimenting with animations. This is the kind of thing people need to get up to; making Kingsmans more inviting will just mean people will wallow inside, not outside, and that fixes nothing.

Caddies, making sure I still don't lift a finger around here.

It's pretty consistently shocking just how out of touch Caddies is with what players enjoy doing. Having a place where characters can conveniently sit down and have conversations is never a bad thing.

Not only that, but Kingsman is regularly used for plot discussions; trying to discourage players from using that zone for anything other than resting, by making the place irrationally unaccommodating is retarded.

(all this having nothing to do with the actual suggestion, which is really pretty unnecessary. Kingsman could do with some private rooms, and that fucking waitress gone, and then it'll be good to go. I just disagree with that rationale completely.)

derfo

I think it'd be cool if that theater in the Kingsman were opened for public use.

However, if you want a private room just use one of the ones in the back and hire someone to guard the door, or rent a real private room. I don't think any area should be full-proof for privacy.

Howlando

I'm all for nicely designed taverns as a place for players to gather and seek out interaction, roleplay and as a place to plot. No doubt the area could use some improvements.

Howlando

Back to work, Scotty.

Mort

I dont understand the pickiness about tables, walking space and chair placement. Seems to be doing a PhD out of the background!
