Staring Death

And I'm back from the blue once again.

There's an idea that I've been itching to try ever since everyone moved up on the surface, and it is to create a group that plans on going in the Underdark and staying there. A few groups of adventurers went below before, but usually came back up; this group would be different. It goes down to stay.

While my purpose is clear, I want to solve the Machine, the rest is really up to each character.

The limitations are obvious: the underdark is dangerous, and there is little room for new characters to join in once we're underground.

I throw this here to see if people would actually be interested in trying this out (because obviously, I could do it by myself, but it would be boring). There's no group concept so far, and there may be none. I just want to see if the general idea is appealing enough.

AllMYBudgies

Sounds interesting, indeed!

Ebok

Would be cool, but I think it detracts from the potential such a character would have in the surface population. I mean, unless the spell-guard below create a portal to the conclave above to create a path. I really dont see this working. :( Could be wrong, but I'd suggest getting DM feedback before proceeding.

Garem

This sounds like an awesome goal to be started on the surface as a character driven plot. I'm sure a lot of folks (myself definitely included) would use this as a great way to retire old PCs.

As a loose PC faction from creation, however, I'm more skeptical. Plus it's always frustrating when barriers get placed between active PCs; there is no barrier greater than THE WAY.

I think SD has a great idea.  This underdark player driven plot could open up RP quite a bit for the surface players.  Slave running, religious pilgrimages, intelligence for coin, alternate allies/adversary development, mercantile, etc.  This could open up a lot of creative thinking on the surface in the way of RP.

I would think that the DM's would have to be supportive of this idea however.  I had a character down there recently and there were a lot of unplugged areas or bugged sections that might need a bit of tending to.

I like it though.

I'm always interested in playing in the UD (it was the setting that originally drew me to EfU in the first place), so I'm interested. Still, this is something you can already do IG. When you go down the Way, you don't need to come back up!

Yalta

I think the idea is to have a bit of interest from a DM?

The UD is now more deadly that when the server was based primarily there. Given the right kick off (maybe somewhere safe to rest etc.) this could be a lot of fun.

Ommadawn

Except for a few obvious places, the surface is far more dangerous than the Underdark, at least in my experience!

But yeah, it's still a LOT of fun to play in the old setting (where it hasn't been ripped out to make space for the surface setting). Sometimes I wish there were an easier path between the two so we could experience the old and the new more often.  :)

Really the more I think of the old days the more I miss them. The more I miss a giant cave no sunlight and people saying good dark. The more I miss making solo trips to Mur around the wilds of the underdark without getting slaughtered.

The more I miss a city doomed and in peril were conflict and politics were brought on PCS and the very governing body was a council of elected PCs. It was a time I felt players could achieve and aspire to more things.

I miss Desil, Dr D.

Let us not forget the massive headaches, the assassin rates, etc...

I felt it was perhaps better to move to the surface. Same old same old lower versus upper etc...

As far as I am concerned, this might be interesting if you consider making an IBRANDUL cult.

That'd be awesome.

Letsplayforfun

UD is still part of the module. There's stuff to see, stuff to do, things to kill, places to discover, places to stay.

If you go there to spam quests with a hint of nostalgia, you'll probably get dm spice but little more. If you go there with a real project, hecks, who knows?

Also there's potions to buy from Dalman.
