I'm not offended by the word FUCK anymore than a truckdriver's lot lizard.

I just find it boring and unimaginative.
"So what else is on your mind besides 100 proof women, 90 proof whisky, and 14 karat gold?"
"Amigo, you just wrote my epitaph."

Caddies

Fuck is not modern at all, it is fine within the setting.

Your choice of words should reflect the meaning you wish to convey. Sometimes the brutal, crass swear word can make your PC come across as more intimidating than if he used some colorful, creative phrase.

Having said that, in most situations a creative swear word (Sune's fiery trench!) is better than a non-creative one.

Also, although I appreciate some hard-bitten thugs/gangsters/whatever might better of be using the word "fuck", use it sparingly. Someone who utters it all the time invariably comes across as dull.

Luke Danger

A good old 'Aw fuck' fits in a number of cases. For example, getting hit by that 100+ Scythe crit.

Personally, those words are far too modern and it always breaks immersion for me.

DangerousDan

It depends how it's used. I've seen fuck used well in an Ancient Roman setting. My issue lies in the context of use. Seeing someone shouting 'Fuck that!' or 'He's a fucking moron"' is sort of jarring because it's used with modern colloquialisms. However, if used with setting appropriate language, the word is fine.

It all comes down to a question of taste and class, to be honest.

The word 'fuck' is far from modern. It's got Anglo Saxon origins.

Stop your whining, nerds.
"Proving concerned parents from the 80's wrong, just in time for them to be dead. "

Okay, Caddies, give me five examples of creative, setting-appropriate curses that have nothing to do with genitals or gods (Sune's fiery trench is a good one though).

I'm all in favor of Sune's fiery trench myself, but whatever works according to the situation!

derfo

i like fuck personally and think it's funny when someone says fuck a lot

really it doesn't matter, if they say it they do, if they don't they don't

The word's history has little relevance to the core of this thread. You are allowed to use the word in question; you should not be using it in a modern way, and that is just about the only way the word is ever used today.

A perfect example of when not to use the word, yes.
