Random NPC Bounties

I recall that in the Underdark, there was a function where every reset a small number of named NPCs would spawn at random locations around the server. These could then be killed and handed in for a bounty at the Watch offices. Never sure if it actually worked, but with the influx of random areas and encounters, it would be sweet, in my opinion (especially with the veritable hordes of never-do-wells running around everywhere). Perhaps include an option so that less-legal characters can have use for the encounter, too? Anyways, it would be sweet - and give some more purpose for us citydweller and lawmen bastards to go do some looking around the wilds.

Would also give another option for a profession other than just an "adventurer", the bounty hunter, more viability.

I support this.

Dr Dragon

I think if players want to be bounty hunters they should pursue such IG HINT HINT Bounties on the bounty board.

Tankerman

Yes, Dr Dragon, but perhaps there are other criminals than the SUPER MEGA OMGWTFPWN powerful PCs (and NPCs) who are quite impossible to find and subdue unless you're a level 9 superhero PC with party?

In fact, if it was added, it could have the added benefit that people were more inclined to be playing Bounty Hunters and such characters. If there was a goal that was more immediately achievable, perhaps such bounty-hunter chars/groups could go after those extremely-difficult and huge bounties.

Dr Dragon

Why not get your own group of Pcs then? The fact is you are asking the DMS for a handout and I do not support this when you can claim plenty of bounties already IG.

Tankerman

I fail to see the logic in your reasoning, DrD. How is exploration, planning such, and gathering a PC group for it a "handout"? Moreover, why is it wrong to enable PCs to do bounty-hunting other than going after other PCs and either have their own chars killed (most likely), or someone else's?

Dr Dragon

You already can do exploring and planning if u ask me that is asking for a cheap way to call yourself a bounty hunter without the risk of permadeath or going after real targets.

Ranek

It is a reason for city dwellers to get out, and also makes the setting more real. I like and support this post.

Luke Danger

Doctor. He's just asking for random NPC's, an additional encounter, like the old Watch bounties back in the UD. They were tough, but then again, 500 gold if you win.

I support this, it could lead to nice RP and better than simply regular patrols.

ScruffyMcSmirkalot

I also support this idea.

Except basically nobody ever went and did it once it was implemented.

There's a long list of existing bounties, plenty of work for a bounty hunter PC. I think we'll probably focus on other things that will actually be used.

The point I have been making exactly.

Tankerman

Most of the Bounties on the board are outdated, invalid, or ridiculously difficult for almost any PC (I've been there to end two of the bounties listed, and attempt to end a good three more).

This leaves PC bounty hunters with basically only Greeley and Frog to pursue. And I don't see anybody managing to amass an army to invade the docks anytime soon - or any PC assassins with the levels and loot to be able to actually sneak in and do a gank.

I'm just saying, it would be a nice addition, and this time people would actually know of it (unlike in the UD, where nobody really knew how it actually worked or even that it existed - I always thought it was somehow broken), and it would mean that someone might actually play a bounty hunter - and, for once, actually claim a bounty! Totally understand if it's not a top priority, but can't see why it would be bad.

Ranek

Right, I understand the decision of DMs having more important stuff to focus on. Just to add, the way bounties work right now, and for a bounty hunter PC... A bounty hunter is necessarily someone who will engage PVP or he'll have tofind another job. Also, a so called 'bounty hunter' will have to be an adventurer and mercenary before he's able to attempt on claiming the bounties. Oh well, I simply liked the idea, and would like to see it implemented someday.

TheImpossibleDream

Yes. Bounty hunters have to engage in pvp. Don't like it? Don't play one. Like it. Good on ya!

Everybody has to quest and be a mercenary in efu:a if you want to gain levels whether you're a carpenter, librarian, dentist or assassin thats just how the game works!
