Why no Healing Kits?

Since I first began playing NWN, I've really appreciated that a non-cleric pc could use the kits with the Heal skill as a less expensive alternative to potions.

So, why are there no healing kits to be found in EftU? Without the kits the Heal skill is just useless.

You'll find medicinal herbs, which heal a more acceptable level of damage, over a more acceptable period of time on a persistent world.

Herbs heal for 1 point of damage per round, for heal skill+d20 DC 11(Every point over 11, is how many rounds it heals for) out of combat, or heal skill+d20 DC 21 for in combat.

Healing kits would basically make potions obsolete, at a much cheaper cost if they were included.

There are 'herb pouches'  Which essentially do the same thing. They use the heal skill, and they apply temporary 1 hp regen until the amount healed is reached.

Healing kits as Bioware made them, Healed poison, disease, and a LOT of HP. For a survivalist setting, that is sort of undesireable given their relative low cost.  Instant healing bandages are also lame, as they are far more powerful than potions.

The Healing Kits were determined a long long time ago to be a bit too powerful for this type of PW Story Server. There is instead an alternative type of mundane healing which is less effective, but more appropriate, and makes total use of the Heal Skill.

Ah, ok, I didn't realize the herb pouches used the Heal skill. And they have the same disadvantage as the healing kit in that they take longer in combat to use then potions. Cool. Thanks.

Healing kits are actually -faster- than potions. You can use three per round, wheras you can use two potions a round. The healing potential is obscene.

Healing herbs you can use once per round, and the DC is boosted by 10 when in combat.

Furthermore, with no take-20 rule, small healing potions are more effective cost-wise, until you get pretty decent heal skill. (Or start grouping with someone who has a lot of heal skill.) After a high skill is reached, though, herb pouches become preferrable for post-combat healing above a certain amount of hp.

I should mention that there are also two other medicinal type items out there that can be applied using the heal skill to remedy illnesses and poisons. (Although you'll still need to drink a potion to remove the actual stat damage, and again, the DC rises by 10 during combat iirc.) :)
