Ravenloft has that. I like it. Rather than pwrgming constantly, you can actually level from roleplaying. Eventually.

petey512

I think that may be pretty exploitable.... but IDK.

Kiaring

As long as needlessly prolix five-liner emotes give 100 XP each, I'm in favor of this proposal.

Clearly Kiaring is not gifted like Naga, or she would have realized long emotes would mean a lower XP/hour average.

I don't think getting XP for making scrolls (wizards/ only) would be able to be powergamed as gold is a very limited supply.  Even at an absurd gold to exp ratio you would still be giving up a significant amount of money for healing or wands.  Although if intended for just sorcerers/wizards, giving absurd amounts of exp for coin through scroll making would make nearly every sorcerer and wizard wanting to accumulate lots of gold to burn "for experiments" and make for an interesting environment.  Even if this gives wizards and sorcerers an advantage they are fairly limited and generally get to bite it frequently enough anyway.

Talking too.

No. I am against this, nothing I really would like to see.

Gullible Righteousness

Mute characters'd be wierd. Also, the combat log would be taken up a lot.

LackofCertainty

As a person who's played on the ravenloft server with it's "xp for emotes" system, I can attest that it -really- doesn't make people spam emotes.

It's designed so that:
1. You need to alternate emotes/speech with other players, so a person spamming emotes by themselves gets nothing.
2. The xp is low enough to where people who want to get xp just do the normal dungeon thing, while still being a little reward for people who are having a pow-wow/long discussion/what have you.

Having said that, implementing the chat xp thing is likely more trouble than it's worth.

Oops!  I was making a sarcastic quip.  That'll learn me!

dragonfire9000

Right then! I'm all for some system of alternate xp, but I really can't see the xp for emote thing not getting spammed straight to Hell. Something with wizards/sorcs though... could a mages guild of some kind be implemented? An academy where the learned and the magically gifted go to practice their occult art? I would love to see that implemented.

However guys, we DO have something other than killing to get xp from. It's not major, but exploration can be absolutely killer. Just a little incentive for you people who think you can make it back to Sanctuary: there's craploads of exploration xp to be had there. Also craploads of Greater Chosen Arcanists, but why quibble?

superfly2000

I think XP should be made through adventuring (completing quests and slaying monsters). This is how it was meant to be in a CRPG (computer roleplay game) like NWN.

I am even a bit reluctant to DM awarded XP for RP:ing. It always lead to questions like: What is RP? What is IC and what is not? Which kind of removes all the fun from it.

Also I think RP should be an award in itself. If you  are really good roleplayer I hope youre doing it for the fun of it and not to get that "uber longsword of slaying +2" because that would kind of destroy the whole meaning of this.

RP:ing is something we do to "spice" up the adventures but the adventure is still the most essential part....even for a RP server.

But of course. Good roleplaying usually leads to good atmosphere. Good atmosphere usually leads to happy DM's. Happy DM's usually lead to a little extra boost on the quest completion XP award....so indirectly RP:ing had actually boosted XP in this perticular situation....oh yeah....did I meantion that the players are still alive? ...hehe

Equinox

im in agreement with petey on this one,

also if you scripted it so that rangers and druids could get xp from animal empathy, they would all buff it as much as they could, and go hunting down every sodding animal, well i know most would. just for xp. i cant seeing it working. the xp system is fine as it is. this -is- a low level server ya know.

Superfly is wise, much respect.
