No-spellfail Leathers.

It's a bit more than ambient loot, so starting a new thread. I think that since there are Mithral Chainshirts as rare loot from some encounters, and one quest, adding a lower grade of spellfail-free armor as rare but not uber-rare loot would be cool. Something to bridge the gap between "woo mithril" and "dammit my spells keep frying", that would let bards wear light armor and cast like they are able to in DnD and in NWN2, or let you make a wild sorc in leathers, that kind of thing. I find it a little odd that you can get around spellfail in a chainshirt, but not lighter armors.

For example:
(on Longest Night)
Nightriser Warlock Combat Suit:
"This ornate black-and gold uniform has thick leather covering the chest for protection, but light silk sleeves that are easy to trace arcane spell formulae in, and  sections of mithril chainmail covering vulnerable areas."
2 AC 6 max DEX bonus
-10% Arcane Spellfailure
+1 Spellcraft
+1 Concentration
9 charges
Mage Armor (2) 2 charges/use
Only useable by Wizard, Sorc, Bard

(on Brood Hive)
Brood Guardian Shaman's Leathers.
Used by the sorcerers of the Brood Tribe in their spider-worship rituals, this leather suit has a small satchel of writhing spider eggs attached to its belt.
3 AC 4 max DEX bonus
-20% Arcane Spellfailure
+1 Tumble
+1 Saves vs Poison
9 charges
Summon Creature I (Spider theme) 1 charge/use
Summon Creature II (Spider theme)  2 charges/use.

Relinquish

There is this neat spell called mage armor that makes anything you're wearing on par with chain shirts on EFUA.

While that's quite valid, I don't think the point of the suggestion is purely mechanical.

I can see the possibility of these as semi-rare quest loot (with weaker stats), though mithril etc is certainly best left as special DM rewards and loot from tough quests!

This kind of loot should best be left for DM loot imo. If you've a noticeable mage-wearing armor PC, it could come around i guess.

Else, it's a bit like letting a class use stuff it shouldn't be able to. Take the armor feat, but take the inconvenience that goes with it. (like having so many magic trinkets useable by all classes)

The problem is more in the still spell feat (and the like), because at best you'll get to cast cantrips with that feat on EfU, and that's if you get to lvl9 which most people don't reach.

Change still spell, and the other feats that enchance magic a bit, imo.

putrid_plum

You can cast more than cantrips with still spell.

i think minmaxed librarian has an easily implemented productive suggestion that is simply being pelted at with half-assed arguments that didn't read his post

putrid_plum

exactly my point, Ranek

Yup!

SkillFocuspwn

Skill Focus pwn is for this!

FleetingHeart

Lay off the downer commentary please. There is nothing wrong with this suggestion.

Still Spell doesn't have THAT big a level bump. Modifying it would require a hakpak, as well.

Loot-based assistance would be much easier on the DMs, and is something that could be more carefully regulated.

BrittanyPanthas

Mithral Chain Shirts are a very rare drop, I don't see why this couldn't be a drop from exploration areas at least.  Or from a quest that isn't done much and could use some help getting interest in doing it.

Drakill Tannan

I support the suggestion. For the reason stated above.
