Magic circle against law/chaos

Like the individual level 1 spells, there should be an override that allows a player to cast a magic circle that protected against law and chaos. Not sure if it is intended such no to exist, i don't think so since there is no real reason why not.

derfo

i don't really see why this would be a priority

Drakill Tannan

Well it is true that most quests simply have evil enemies so the circle against evil solves everything. However some neutral PCs might want to cast color spray from behind their frontliners and not get them killed, among other things.

The individual protections can protect against law/chaos, i don't think it would take much work to do an override for magic circle against alignment.

... Okay, wait wait WAIT!

... WAIT!

Okay.

When does something have to be a "priority" to be suggested? All he did was claim that it should be implemented, not when or how fast.

It's a good suggestion. We have singular protections again law and chaos, and we have the ability through different options to enchant weapons with different magical properties than usual.

I'd be for this suggestion, to be implemented eventually, at least.

derfo

while more options is cool, i don't think this is a big deal

It is when there are several people to protect.

If a lawfull neutral wizard needs to protect his frontliners from color spray (going back the the reason i posted this) and we have 4 frontliners, we need 4 slots and the rest left of color spray. Assuming i have 8 (wich are quite a few) i could cast 4 IF i were not to buff them. If instead i use magic circle against law i can cast 4 color sprays and buff with 4 magic weapons.

It is a big deal.

Have DMs discussed this idea yet?

Aim better?

Drakill Tannan

Was told so. But there are places where no matter how good you are aiming, you'll hit the frontliners or be in front and die horribly. Examples: Corridors, chokepoints etc.

Also, color spray example aside, you'll agree it is very helpfull when you can cast an AoE that won't harm your frontliners while they fight against the enemies. If a caothic neutral wizard is to cast fear to the orcs so they flee, he must do so before the frontlners engage or chances are the frontliners will be screwed. Protecting each of them might cost too much spellslots, level 1 spellslots can be very valuable, and sometimes, if plenty, be worth more than a level 3 spellslot. Protecting the frontlinets against chaos so when you see they are getting pwn you can cast fear and give them a good chance of escape would be quite usefull, but it costs 1 level 1 spellslot per frontliner and a fourth level spell slot. 1 level 3 and 1 level 4 sounds better in certian scenarios.

Same goes for sleep, at low levels, it would be darn usefull to cast it over your frontliners thile they fight the kobolds in melee, but unless you spend a level 1 spellslot on each you have to cast it before they do so, reducing it's efectiveness.

I seriously don't get why people would try to ridicule this suggestion.

It's a perfectly healthy one, though as have been said, should be implemented when/if time allows it.

derfo

i think the fact that you can't just choose that LN example strategy you would as a good or evil wizard is kind of cool. while it's not optimal there, neutral wizards are pretty notorious at using that non-good/evil alignment to their advantage as well

Drakill Tannan

True Neutral wizards would retain that advantage.

I'm making a TN Enchanter next, with extend spell.
