Stealing from DM events

This is mostly a reminder for OOC courtesy.

When you are involved in a DM Quest or Event and you sneak passed NPCs and other mobs to go loot locked chests in plain view of said NPCs, you must have a DM supervising.

In order to achieve this, you must send a message to the DM channel, and you must receive a direct response from a DM. If you have not received a message from a DM letting you know you are being supervised, you may not loot said chests until all NPCs are dead.

You will most likely be asked to roll a series of pickpocket rolls with consequences for failure. If you do not have ranks in pickpocket, do not even bother.

We give loot out at the ends of difficult encounters as a reward for everyone there. To take that reward, even a part of it, without following these steps, is an extremely selfish and rude act towards your fellow players. We do not like selfish and rude people.

On a related note: If you do not have ranks in bluff, you probably should not be playing a habitual liar. That is, of course, unless you are really good at playing a habitually BAD liar and offer regular emotes to indicate that the character is in fact lying and to show just how horrible a liar they are.

If you intend to do this, inform us ahead of time, so that we can see everyone gets compensated.

If you don't inform us, things will not be pretty.

I'm kicking this because we've had instances of this recently.

I also want to expand upon what was written, and say that this not only includes DM Quests, but spice on scripted quests as well.

It is perfectly acceptable to play a thief.  However, it's important for us to know that someone is ACTIVELY stealing so that we can handle things properly and fairly ICly.

Also, stealing doesn't just include taking everything - it includes skimming off the top as well.  If you find a pile of 1,000 gold, and 10 potions of cure serious wounds - then you need to inform the entire group.  If you tell the group that you found 900 gold and 8 potions of cure serious wounds (with the intent of keeping 100 extra gp for yourself, along with two of the potions) that's skimming.  You need to inform us, so that we can handle things appropriately and fairly.

It's bad taste to mug people randomly and steal massive amounts of supplies and coin from them.  But at least they have a chance of fighting back.

When you snag all the supplies (and don't emote doing it) on a quest, they really have no way of knowing due to the way NWN inventory works.  Then, they get mad at us for providing them too little reward (understandably so!), and it's a bad time all around.

But, a thief character might snatch an extra bauble and keep it hidden if he has high bluff/pickpocket, just as a cool bandit might snatch a choice artifact and vanish.

Things to think about.  It's really a huge pain to try to police who gets what, and we really want to make sure everyone is at least somewhat satisfied with how things end up (provided they succeed at their mission).
