Lower Enchantment Costs

I just paid 500 gold to have an otherwise unenchanted bit of clothing get the addition "+2 Lore". If anyone thinks this is a reasonable trade, please, please add to this debate.

The costs for all these additions seem as if they were scaled to balance and keep people from overenchanting any bits of armour, but no armour or cloth will become overpowered just by getting any of the very minor enchantments you can currently buy, unless it would be possible to stack them or to enchant already magical equipment.

My suggestion is to scale down the costs. Adding +2 Lore to armour or cloth should be in the range of 2-300. If it remains as it is, I don't see anyone ever purchasing it for reasons other than to waste gold or to experiment if they don't know exactly what they'll get.

I believe the idea was for patricians to make their own uniforms and such for their lackies and grant minor bonuses. It's more of a flavor thing for rich groups to gift new members with something nifty. I believe said patricians also get a discount.

But, in any case, I'm not sure that the prices are out of line. Expensive to make for yourself as a lone adventurer? Probably. Expensive for a group of adventurers to make occasionally for new members? Almost certainly not. What is 500 gold, afterall, to people who can crush quests and random areas with little.

What about plain mundane chain shirts for over 400, chain mail over 500 and banded over 600? Not even able to add the sweet loin cloth to it. Wanna look pimp? It is the price of customization ...

Mort

I'm down to change the prices.

ExileStrife

They should stay high!  Pay-to-customize and pay-to-enchant stuff is a luxury and privilege for those who can afford it, not a right!

500 for 2 lore seems silly, though. I could understand for something more useful, like discipline, but lore?

FleetingHeart

Lore can be pretty useful too. Just not in combat, generally.

Sandstorm

I paid between 900 and 1000 gold for Proversons armor, with a +2 persuade bonus.

The next day I found an armor with +2 to all social skills, eagles splendor 1x/day, and aura of glory charges. For free, from a quest.

You cannot say that it is overpowering to offer a single +2 enchantment to items cheaply, but not to have such loot floating around from quests.

OrchardOfMines

I also think these prices are a little high.  If the goal is to encourage patricians to deck out their employees in lightly enchanted uniforms, the price should be a little lower.

+1-2 isn't enough to be harmful or imbalancing in any way so far as I can tell, barring UMD and Discipline maybe. Lowering it just so you get to see cool PC faction loot more often is a good enough reason for me.

Not that I'll ever actually buy the stuff, really. I'm too fiscally responsible, especially in this age of economic breakdown.

Super big LOL to all of you after Mort said his peace.
"So what else is on your mind besides 100 proof women, 90 proof whisky, and 14 karat gold?"
"Amigo, you just wrote my epitaph."

Just because one DM says they want to do something, doesn't mean it will happen. Leave people to give their opinions in peace.

Also, Blazon now offers his old selection of affordable, varied clothing with perform/social skills/stealth on the cheap. A good way to acquire uniforms.

My two cents, looted stuff should be the powerful option, with custom gear at a low cost for people willing to sacrifice having the best stats for having a cool outfit. IMO, should be at a cost comparable to what PCs are selling loot with those stats for, with the extra cost being the custom outfit in the first place.

On a similar note, having the shoploot basic armors (like Tobar's) dropped to affordable prices (because they're about 2-300 over what a PC would sell gear like that for, and at about 100 over, I bet people'd buy them for the convenience of looking the same) might make a faction use them for uniforms in the same way.

ExileStrife

hide, ms, tumble, discipline, spellcraft, heal, umd, taunt....all these skills are actually pretty good and +2 helps a lot.

Cerberus

Sleight of Hand would be a big one too with the new option of picking pockets.

Personally I've always enjoyed EFU and EFU:A because of the low levels and low magic. I guess that makes me against lowering prices.
