New traps

Traps are next to unusable in quests, because your party might trigger them as much as the enemies, and they are also pretty useless in team PvP for the same reason.

I am thinking of Diablo II's Assasin-like traps: rather than a small square on the floor that when stepped on does something nasty, an item that can be dropped into the floor, and becomes a placable that does things when enemies are in proximity, like:

-Shooting 10 arrows at random enemies.

-Throw choking power to itself to catch enemies in the cloud.

-Cast burning hands once to the nearest enemy.

They would trigger by proximity of hostile PCs/NPCs only, therefore the new "parties" wouldn't be affected, and they could be effective in team PvP. Although i'm not sure if this would be scriptable.

The placeables would be unactivated untill a player would iniciate a conversation with them and activate them through a "set trap" check, afterwards they would do whatever they are designed to.

They should be buyable from a merchant in the docks, powerfull ones found as loot (although makes little sence they are stored in a chest rather than deployed and activated) or craftable by PC's in a similar was as the Alchemy/Herbalism system.

This would be in addition to the actual traps, since they can be usefull still, in certian scenarios.

Thoughts?

A very good idea. I like it.

FleetingHeart

Would be very amusing to see something like this. Especially an arrow launching one.

I like the fact that traps can affect anyone, even in your own party. People have a tendency to dance over traps, which makes them, i dunno, weird.

The real problem is that they have to be detected, otherwise you can't dance arround it while fighting and end up dansing inside by accident. But if they were universally detected by PCs then they would have no use in PvP.

Letsplayforfun

If you can put them, you can flag them, can't you?

FleetingHeart

I don't recall that you can flag your own traps. The party system did that for you by making them green to your party.

Drakill Tannan

Another rogue in your party could flag them. But only if there are two rogues there.

derfo

why don't you just lay a trap and say something along the lines of "yo i put a trap here, don't step here idiots"

Talir

It appears that you are able to flag your own traps. Test this on EFU:A as well, somebody.

FleetingHeart

Seems that you can flag your own traps. Just tested.

Sounds cool, but unneccesary. Maybe more customish regular traps.

BrittanyPanthas

I want the Indiana Jones whirling blade penitent man style trap.

What do you mean it would be hard to set up?  The coolness factor would far outweigh the suspension of disbelief!

Drakill Tannan

And maybe we can have traps that do some damage asides than from looking flashy.
