Making Doom knights a bit less insanely dificult?

Yeah, they are waaay to powerfull IMO. I mean, i saw one take 3 high level chracters (7,8 ) along with me just now. And the group that came to rescue us? 3 people died from that one too, before the doom knight was taken down, and these ones were better prepared, althouh lower level in general (judging by HP at least, but i know there were 2 high levels there)

Mist ogres are a joke compared to a single of these guys. Assain vines? lol at thouse. I've learned the true meaning of fear in EFU:A.

I'd suggest taking away 1 attack per round. The AB is so high it will almost always hit, i think taking 30 damage per round is enough. Also make it so the fear aura can be avoided with protection against evil (wich unless a bug, didn't happen) instead of just clarity.

Is it really meant for 4 high levels not to be able to deal with one of these, unless prepared and buffed to oblivion?

Surely you're exaggerating. They are certainly EXTREMELY difficult, but certainly not impossible. They have amazing tricks (paralyze), great AB, and pretty impressive damage (but 30 seems a bit high!). Then again, they are DOOM knights. Not "Pretty Scary". Doom. Think End Bosses from classic video games scary.

And btw, they do have some pretty glaring weaknesses, one of which I just discovered a few days ago and I've been playing NWN for years.

I never said they were imposible. The group did kill it, it just took 9 people and two waves of attackers.

As for the damage, it usually dealt 18 damage or 11 damage, trice per round. that's over 40 damage each round if it hits all and with the high AB it has should not be rare. 2 attacks per round make it 30 most of the time. it is still a lot, but not as high.

If they are inteded to take a whole good level party down easily, the congrats, and keep them like that, but if not, there's something wrong with them.

Unless they have massively buffed up doom knights recently or  the knight was buffed by a DM - They are not easy, but they are definately managable.  I personally would rather solo a doom knight than a mist ogre, any day of the week. >.>

We know how strong they are, and they're used because they're tough.  If you have trouble killing one with three people, either be smarter when you approach it (bless weapon, stoneskin, blur, direct damage spells, etc.), or just use a few more guys.  Doom Knights don't get any stronger when more people are along.

If I recall right from base NWN, unmodified Doom Knights had a CR of 12-13 and all of these spells.  I'm going to assume that they were modified up, not down for EfU.

Doom Knights are one of the most cursed and powerful Undead in existence given that they're fallen Paladins who are cursed into Undeath.  As I recall right, they're often equated to lesser versions of a Death Knight from the D&D settings.  Death Knights have Power Word: Kill, Stun, and various other extremely powerful abilities.

Given that.  Yes.  They're supposed to be difficult.  Yes, you need a party that's decently prepared to have an adequate chance.

Not every creature is supposed to just be charged and overwhelmed by numbers, unless you actually take preparations and face it strategically.

I was with Garem facing one, and yeah, they are nasty as hell. If the fear aura's not PfEable, that would make sense to change, like it was for Mummies. I recall that Jergal Crypt uses to be a bitch as you burned so many clarities on the Mummies or half the party got feared and were all "Huh, wtf, I should be immune to this?".

We dealt with it by spamming healing onto the paralyzed PC while our Ranger killed it, and by the fact that I'd scouted ahead and said "Hey, guys, something REALLY badass looking there".

If you, like us, found one on a random event, just realise they are not all meant to be an entertaining little easy fight with some supply chests. There's at least one other random I know of where most PCs I've played would turn back and think "Hell NO I'm not taking that without an X". So, be careful and send a scout in first.

I just didn't thought they were meant to be THAT strong, but if they are meant to be like that, then they are fine.
