New Theories on the Mist by
Phebe Herathyza.
A work in progress

Mortals are blessed with sight to see the obstacles in our path, but He of the Third Eye has the divine sight to see beyond the Now and into the Future, it is through His Might this humble servant attempts to learn the Truth about the Mist. Is it a tool of lies that must be dispersed for people to reach Enlightenment. Is it a simple Netherese weather machine gone awry, is it a sentient creature, is the spirit of the many who has died on this island, or is it the divine message of the All-Seeing. Is what the Mist grants people truth or lies?

What is known about the Mist.

The Mist Ogres often carry a vial of Mist upon their person, which is likely a source of their power, but little is known about this substance, how it is distilled or how they manage to confime it to bottle.

The author also observed a blind mountain cat approach her, likely sensing the Mist Essenes she carried. The animal eagerly consumed, it only to die shortly after. This may prove to be a stark reminder of how deadly the Mist Essence may be if consumed by humans.

-The Elves of the Illythiiri.
It was said by an elven spirit that they knew about the Mist, but he shall only part with his knowledge if his riddle can be solved. But this may aid in putting a time line on the apperance of the Mist.

-The Exiled Dreamers worship it.
They have tools that enables them to enter deep slumbers that may last for years through the rites of the Eternal Tranquility, where they consume distilled essence from the Mist prepared by the High Mystics and given to the Chosen Dreamers. But they speak little of what these Chosen Dreamers see, only that their slumber is so deep that not even physical pain may rouse them. But one may wonder why the Count has declared worship of the Mist to be ground for execution in Old Port.

They speak of the Great Shrouding of Old Port where for ten years the Mist was so thick that no ship could leave and none could enter, isolating the city. It is said by the Dreamers that only through abandoning their path to the philosophy of the Dreamers could they be saved. It is believed by some of the Dreamers that this incident led to the rise of Count Zarano Senspur and thus one may put the Great Shrouding to happen sometime around the War of the Five Houses, or War of Succession and detailed in History of the Wyrm Watchers It may be a far stretch to assume that the Mist orchestrated such a political change in Old Port, but the idea cannot be easily disregarded.

-The Tribe of Gaeseric the Unyielding and the Veil.
These men who have situated themselves far into the Mountains of Mist has a rite where they pass through several trials presented to them by the Mist. Torvald the Great has passed such a Mist Walk and speaks of the many dangers put in his path but that he Emerged stronger and wiser. It seems it is also that it is here that the Mist is strongest, going thicker as one climbs the mountains only to disperse as soon as one reached the desert. One can then encounter the Mist again in the Veil, where in an old Shrine, it is so thick that it clings onto your feet making walking difficult. The entrance to the Veil also bears a warning that the "gods have abandoned the place". The Argenti tribe fears the forest believing it has the ability to make a man lose his mind, as detailed in the Report on the Veil by Benjamin Winderhem. It is evident that more research on this place is necessary.

-The Cloister of the Order
It is said by many that there is a room in the Cloister that is filled with Mist and it is known to have been granted visions to its visitors as detailed in the Report from the Cloister By Master Ahmed Kaliwazah . Detailed in the report are several prophecies foretold by the Order that may have been granted to them by the Mist. Again, more research is necessary.
