Following the thread of a super-permadeath quest:

I'd enjoy a series of linked quests that a PC can do only once, where the QA are perma-deaths, and that lead to either isle plot related stuff, or isle escape, or nobility or patricianhood, or whatever DM twisted minds can think of to reward/retire the few PCs that would manage to complete the whole campaign.

To prevent the PCs from farming ressources to complete that campaign you could also prevent any pc who's taken a campaign-quest to do regular quests.

That would make a challenging series of QA besides the more regular ones, and maybe have a hall of fame for the PCs who 'did it', like for those who escaped the UD. I recall Howland had challenged people to do all the battlequests (whoever won?), that would be kinda like it, only tryable once per pc...

Mort

This is a good idea.

The first paragraph is good, the rest seems useless. A series of hard and challenging quests that can be attempted once, where you will simply survive or die, is pretty cool. Not being able to do regular quests before or after does not make much sense.

I like the idea. Some quests that could only be taken seriously. Aditionally i'd like this linked quests to need objects of triggers from various areas/quests to encourage exploration.

I'd hate to have this quests disallow the use of regular quests, sometimes you just want to loose 1 hour of your life killing stuff in a quest, not having to worry if you die or not.

Mort

Dont expect this any time soon since I do most of the Quests on efu:a and doing a quest can take up 10-12 hours of undistracted time. Everything has to be 'just so' for me. I usually have the chat open and get distracted by that too!

But I' do like the idea of a campaign 1-time series of quests with some nice reward and heavy consequences.

Tomb of Horrors imo.

I would think that there should be many random factors, and at one of those should be heavy scaling for player level/class(es).

Assuming that this is a PD scripted quest, I don't think it would have to be epic in difficulty (though more so than the usual quests for certain) so long as it cannot be metagamed.  Scaling should be fine given a minimum level.  Plus, many players who are retiring a character might be doing so at level 5 instead of level 9.  In which case they might as well just accept the quest then immediately partake in their preferred flavor of seppuku.

On the idea of antimetagaming factors, perhaps some of these might involve things like the bounty quests where the player has to find something/someone hidden in a remote and/or dangerous location.

Or throw them the wrench so to speak. Put them in a scene where the players must find the only actual female dwarf at an annual duergar battlerager/tranny convention.  You simply can't metagame any situation which has no 'good' way to handle it.

Side tasks could be fun to do as well for that extra challenge and reward. Lets take the evil goblin tribe for example:-

Quest is to mercilessly destroy a group of goblins who have camp on that hill. You march up the hill only to find that they are about to kill some kid in the name of their dark gods, its only a matter of time before hes killed so you've got to act fast. If you don't manage to save the kid but destroy the tribe then you get the standard reward for that quest, if you manage to destroy the tribe and save the kid then the kid might know where the goblins kept some of their most treasured items/loot.

Basically I'm suggesting adding tasks to these campaign quests that aren't mandatory but will reward the group with additional loot/gold if completed. It could make some loot pretty rare indeed since you can only do the quest once per character.

I love this idea.

It's a way to offer quasi-DM plot quests without a DM having to be present. I love the twist on it that if you manage to get through the quest series, your PC gains some tangible reward either through plot, story, or other various non-loot related reward that would be relevant.

LOVE this idea! But IMO I see no reason to restrict people from questing in-between. That just makes things easier on people who have ways to gain gold/consumables without questing, and unnecesarily punishes people who need to quest to make income.
