Poll: The Forgotten realms and EFU:A?

I have been thinking deeply into what the EFU:A concurs with the original Forgotten realms setting. What I have thought is that : How close is EFU:A with the normal setting of the forgotten realms?

Surely there are many things from Faerun and the Forgotten realms setting but sometimes I'm not feeling too much of the setting in EFU:A. I know that we have the same sub-races and more with the ideas of the realms but I am not truly thinking of the various impacts that it has on the isle.

What I was able to have in the old EFU was a sense of D & D in the underdark. Speaking as it was an actual place in the forgotten realms and there were many D&D creatures like Illithids and Mind flayers. On Ymph though, it seems more alien like and much different than the normal Forgotten realms idea.

Although I love EFU:A I would like to see how many people think of the server like myself. I would also want to see players and DM answer truly to this poll.

The underdark is a big place and the forgotten realms are bigger, the idea with non canon areas is that they are somewhere undiscovered or completely unimportant on the large scale of things in forgotten realms, so changes can be made to the setting without having to factor in all kinds of weird and wacky responses from various regions throughout FR.

Ymph is in the shining seas, another place found in that sea is chult! I find a lot of the wildlife on ymph reminds me of chult. Giant lizards, jungle cats, various types of killer plants and ooze.

I don't think it feels alien so much as isolated from the rest of FR. Think of it as being stuck in some forsaken backwater of the realms!

I'd like to see more cannon organizations winding up here, not like say, entire platoons of Zhenthirim or Greycloaks, but at the very least a member from a lot of different groups, we already got the Red Wizards, let's see some more!

Forgotten Realms is too scattershot for my taste. I much prefer to use homebrew factions and ideas that match our needs, rather than try to fit a piece of the jumbled FR puzzle in.

Forgotten Realms is an excellent place to pull concept ideas for your PC, from hometown geography, to important figures, to history, to deities.... and then bring them into this excellent setting.

FRCS = background basis, but EfU:A is definitely it's own thing.

Howlando

I'm just surprised you thought the original EFU was more canonically proper than EFU:A.

Snoteye

EfU is only FR because NWN is FR. If NWN was Planescape, so, too, would EfU be.

[Edit]
Clarification: It's not because we want it to be FR.

I like it where it's at, for the most part. I would not mind a touch of some major factions perhaps, like Harpers for example, but otherwise there is no need for it. Custom factions really are not any different other than the sheer size they might represent, which does not really effect anything here due to it's story. If you want to play a member, or previous member of these factions I'm sure that you can apply for it, but with the realization that you won't have the support of other members or the faction as a whole.

That's kind of a lame excuse. There's nothing that strictly limits a NWN module to be FR. It could just as well be Greyhawk, or an original campaign setting for that matter. Granted, you'd have trouble with stuff like Planescape and Eberron, but still.

Snoteye

No, it could not just as well be Greyhawk, because then there would be virtually nothing left of the game. It can't be more than FR, either, because we don't use haks.

Chosen, Animatrons, the abundance of non-Lolthan drow, an (admittedly secret) non-canon deitic figure, Svirfneblin magi-tech, deep lizards, the unseelie, the rather high acceptance of democracy, and I'm sure there are more deviations from canon in the UD.

Personally, I think the Archipelago should somehow be transplanted from the Realms, to a setting entirely of our own creation. One with fewer gods, maybe some different subraces, and some vague descriptions of the major regions/cultures of the distant mainland.
