Classic EfU?

Me and a fellow player that used to play on Escape from the Underdark (yes, without the "D") and we were thinking that we really enjoyed the classic one. It really presented a lot of opportunities and role play enjoyment for us, and we were wondering if anyone else felt this way. Maybe the server could even be put back up again separate from this current server, so people can get the best of two very well designed servers. (Not to say there is anything wrong, but we feel that the atmosphere and expertly made original EfU has a caliber that is uncomparable as to other servers excluding this one)

'EfU: Time Rift'

Or, EfUTR

I'd kind of like to have an EFU: All-Stars server. Where all the highest level or most impactful characters (possibly even ones that escaped) ever to grace the server, were all revived in some cosmic event to deal with some massive, Toril-changing event

Limit it to one character per player, regardless of the number of alt accounts one may have, just go at it hardcore for like 1 month or something.

The ending of which could possibly have distant and indirect effects on the islands we're on now.

We will not be doing this because A) the DM's (I'd say we but I don't really do much) have a lot of workload on their hands as it is, and B) because we can't afford to split our playerbase, and most importantly C) because the setting is a continuation of the past setting, which is now unplayable as a permanent PW.

With that said, PC's from EFUA have in the past made their way down to the Underdark, and with enough luck and skill that may be accomplished again in the future.

Is this possible to do without a DM or are there 'specific keys' along the way?

ExileStrife

It can be done without a DM.

Possible, no keys required, extremely difficult both for the combative and thinking player! And yes you need BOTH!

I was just toying around with the idea in my head, never, ever had the thought that this would ever come to pass. More like wishful thinking on my part.

Egon the Monkey

I remember when we had the old and new server running together for a while, and people were logging on to the old server with just the placeholder area for 24/7 arena combat. :D

Cruzel

I'd be really surprised if some sort of archived form of it did not exist of the module before the setting  change, before the massive and subtle area deletion to make room for EFU:A took place and before the final epic death of EFU.

While I do agree that putting up a server 24/7  would split the playerbase, because some players (myself included) do still love the underdark a lot!

Perhaps though one of the older versions of the mod can be put up maybe one night a week, so players can do the older quests, explore, etc!  It wouldn't take much effort to set that up, and would be super cool. You wouldn't really need to make anything new for it at all. It would just be up for some good old fashioned fun, and not be an actively dev'd project!

Would be pretty sweet IMO, Thursday night old school EFU!

One main argument about not doing what you suggest Cruzel, is that the DMs are excited to see PC's explore the ruins of sanctuary in EFUA, and discover further mysteries there -now- rather than doing it in a retroactive setting.

I appreciate this, but it also means it's something I will likely never do. My play times pretty much ensure I can never participate in a trip along the Way as it is.

That makes me sad.  :(

I've always wanted to make a single-player module where you have to help Lord Bunge complete some sort of quest where he goes to the Dark Shore for some kind of shady deal, and hilarity ensues.

But I'm a lazy bastard. I don't think I even finished the write-up for that idea.
