When someone selects Martial and Exotic Proficiency feats, they get simple weapon proficiency as well.  Not sure how feasible it'd be to script something like this, but god it'd be so nice.  If a character can use greatswords and scythes, they should be able to use simple spears and clubs and the such.

I thought you have to have simple weapon proficiency to take martial, and exotics require both simple and martial proficiency.

Knight Of Pentacles

Nope. Just 2 ab or something.

If anyone's gonna dabble in this, which I seriously doubt it, I'd suggest it to be like PnP. "Exotic Weapon Feat" is not for all exotic weapons. You must choose the weapon, and the feat will work for that weapon.

I don't see how that's relevant to the original suggestion.

It's relevant in that the current implementation is actually a sort of compromise from how it is in PnP to the video game… so pushing it even further from PnP may not be desirable.

I agree that if you train in using a kusari-gama, no matter how badass you are with it, if you've never picked up a dagger, your dagger skills are going to be shitty (relative to your kusari-gama skills).

I don't think adding the ability to use weapons you haven't used the feat (either coming with your class or taking it at the cost of a feat selection) is necessary or representative of fixing some sort of legitimate IC oversight.

I do think it's dumb that as a non-trained individual you can't even pick up a weapon (any fool can hold a spear and shove it point-end towards something he wants to stab with it, would be cool if you could use non-proficient weapons at a penalty)… but that's the way the game is.
