Conjuration Focus Player-tool

One aspect of EFU's conjuration system I've always found underused were single-use summoning reagents. Its conceptually really cool, a wizard using a rare and dangerous reagent in a fit of desperation to summon something unexpected and/or nasty. Unfortunately, in combat, its very awkward to spend 12+ seconds not only finding it in your inventory, but using the Conjuration Focus tool on it. As I result I find most people, unless its situational horrible, stick with their currently selected theme.

I'm not sure if the awkwardness of switching between reagents is intentional, or if the conjuration focus is a relic of the pre-player tool era, but the one-shot reagents would definitely see more use if that's the case.

Have it check that theres an actual focus in your inventory first, then sure, works for me

Paha

It's part of the deal, having to make decisions on what to do in each given point of time. Whether you spend few seconds doing something, stopping for a moment, or keep running, what spell you cast, what you do.

No, we don't need a tool for everything to happen on the run.

Pandip

I'm not sure I understand the suggestion, actually. If you want to make for quick conjuration focus switches, put the focus on your hotkey bar and make sure that your foci are in a prominent, easy-to-find section of your inventory (i.e., NOT in a bag, as they interrupt movement/actions to open).. and then just make use of it. If you're suggesting that the player tool is needed so that the process doesn't take up a round, I disagree. But having the player tool is not going to make this any easier than it already is, especially if you're looking to have a conversation start that shows all the reagents in your inventory, which is something that can't be done in combat.

Having played several summoners over my time, I have found what Pandip suggests to be a very suitable solution.

For my summoner avatars, I personally dedicate a page of my inventory purely for my conjuration reagents in nice neat columns with my focus placed in a convenient clicking place in the midst of it.

I think it's manageable and the design and implementation of a player tool, seems a lot of effort for a thing that may not even end up being more convenient.

What could work, to reduce effort as you say with the one-shot reagents is if they were consumable perhaps like a potion? Not sure on the scripting for it, but it's an idea. Then again, as Paha says, it may not be desirable.

I'm not sure how this was interpreted as a suggestion for a player-tool to call a dialog? My suggestion was for a player tool, rather than an item, to function as the Conjuration Focus. I always felt it requires you to spend a chunk of time, disproportional to its usefulness outside of certain situations, to switch your summoning theme for a single cast.

But it seems intentional on the part of DMs that changing your summoning theme is risky.

Well, the reason I suggested it could become a consumable is that you could just place it on your hotbar and click or press the bound key to activate. At least that would work for one shot reagents and potentially tomes.

Once again, getting an idea of what kind of implementation you are in fact suggesting would be helpful, especially if you have a script idea for it?

Or is it just a concept you have without a defined solution - for a coder to look into and design?
