FE Vermin

For a Ranger with FE Vermin the attack bonuses don't work on Dunwarren Rats (other rats work fine).

Rats are Animals. Most non magical spiders are Vermin.

Beetles are Vermin as well iirc.

I think it's because the Dunwarren rats are the size of small dogs.
