Consider it a professional courtesy that I kept my pity for your situation from your flock there, in the viper's den.

Try as you might to seem blase about it, I cannot begin to imagine your pain. Turning your own spear upon one of your own rank, after he himself had killed another you brought into the fold.

A sad tale indeed, even for such of wicked hearts.

Even amongst serpents a shepherd ought lead. Gather your cane.

Long did I consider this reply.  Long, long long.  You have the fortune to lead a flock less ornery than I.  The Waradim are prone to wander but they are not so disposed to cutting purses and playing vulture as those who hold the devouring loop of ambition.  They respect only power and wealth, and some of them believe that this makes them wise.  It was not the pursuit of dinari that made me who I am, it was a different sort of addiction.  A long in the bones hatred.  I think we will endure the snapping and hissing of my asps for a long while yet before they are turned to useful purpose. 

When the time comes that I must snatch up my cane and meet the lions preying at my flock with slingstones, there will be more at stake and more to fear than the stealing of purses and the tearing of pretty cloaks.
