Lower Sanctuary is a hotbed of awesome cult activity. Old gods, new gods, dead gods, and more.

To flip the traditional script though I thought I'd take a new spin on an old classic in regards to the idea of racial factions. As presented in the realmslore forum here

Mourning

QuoteEffectively, this is a "faithless" deity entry, however it shows that the elven character has undertaken the practice of Mourning. In the absence of their gods it is rumored that the elven race, in their sorrow, has begun to intuit a way to move beyond mortality, immortality, and the planes themselves. The method seems to involve an aesetic lifestyle and a transcendental mentality. Elves pursuing this in life are known as the Mourning. More on Mourning is found out in-game.

When I first read this personally I jumped instantly to Monk, which has been the basis of a lot of my concept however I wanted to make this post to let anyone in search of a character or otherwise know that there's a wide variety of opportunities for Mourning PCs.

To begin I am hoping to take this notion -beyond- just elves. Humans lost their deities as well and in these times there is no shortage of those who have lost their way and may have potential amongst the faction. Elves, Half Elves, Humans, Dwarves, and any others who feel a rhyme or reason to Mourn for their loss of deity can find place and purpose.

While not every PC is required to adhere to monastic practice there's certainly opportunity for those with interest in such. Furthermore there's a variety of activities publicly that you can get involved in as well as more secretive aspects as any good cult should have.

There's really no end to what can be pursued and countless concepts that can be raised

Alignment:Non-Good though the faction is mostly lawful so the really ambitious anarchy sorts may want to check across the way at the Ascended cult. those Oozeys, or the Ibrandulites.
Race: Elf and Half-Elf fit the best but any welcomed
Class: Any

Just a few rough ideas for anyone interested, existing PCs are of course welcome to investigate matters similarly.

Everyone's got a reason to Mourn.

Elven shopkeep fleeing upper in fear of persecution
Elven urchin pickpocket struggling to get by
Paladin of Corellon who lost his way in the wake of his death
Clerics who no longer hold their faith with their god dead
Scholar seeking to chronicle the end of the elven world
Half-Elf fleeing persecution from traditional elven society
A soldier who is the last of his battalion to survive
A bard who laments over his lost love
An engineer who weeps over his life's work in ruins
    Monastic acolyte
Druid of Fenmarel who has lost all ties to the natural world
Sheverashan ranger who turned from the faith after the Coward's survival
A mother who loathes existence after the loss of her children

These are just a few ideas for elves and non elves who may have a reason to get involved in the business of the Mourning Faithless, there's countless others out there though!

In such a widely chaotic culture as the elves tend to have there's a chance now for legitimate LG/LN/LE elves to be made and fit directly into the canon of EFU.

I want to say I really love how you always come up with those little list of "suitable concepts". Maybe I'll mourn for a lost love with you.

Though, it might be weird...
