Howdy all.

So my latest character concept died day 1 in a random meatgrinder permadeath event. I regret going on it as it was a waste of the character but it's not like I didn't have ample warning and chance to back out.

In any case I wasn't expecting to lose the character so quickly. This leaves me without ideas so I decided to turn to the forums for ideas for character concept and build.

I feel like I havnt had a good character since I played my Ilmatari cleric in chapter 3 so suggestions are welcome.

EDIT: Thank you for the responses so far. I had to cut the initial post a bit short because I ran out of time on my work break.

Given what you said it has reminded me of a concept I had that I never got around to playing. A world weary paladin of Ilmater. If anyone could suggest some good builds for a paled in I would be grateful. I am mechanically challenged (I.E. I've lost every single PvP fight I have even been in except 1 over the last 10+ years I've played on this server.)

Lots of great opportunities right now. A resurgence in goodly folks to rise against the backdrop of evil makes for a good chance for all manner of concept.

I guess my question is what sort of character you'd like to play? A scummy villain? A conniving cultist? A benevolent mentor?

If you figure out a character concept I don't mind crunching out a few build possibilities to match it (probably like 1 optimal* and up to 3 flavourful via pm) 'cause I'm fine with that.

You did the right move reaching out on a forum post, now people that've lost out on their buddies can request your help to give you a purpose until you find your own.

Some possibilities though-

Ranger-type Exile Collective that hunts out aberrations and taps into a strange magic during progression (deity field geared toward EC). Stealth maestro when $#!+ gets real so no need to fear random head-hunters.

Lowersman Overlord, currently vacant as far as I know.

Part of the army of Fort Mur! Perhaps app for a duergar that was un-enthralled if there were survivors or a mercenary out of Mutulakt looking for easy guard work for the Fort. Or dwarf it up.

Goblins and Kobolds.

Clerics that worship dead god designation J-34 as a relic guardian with the intention of finding one of their possibly remaining avatars that are on Toril and ascending them to godhood once more.

A wizard that just wants to make friends, collecting all possible reagents and tomes for summoning themes.

A drill-Sergeant Watcher that drags out Watchers for training or patrols on a regular basis, and on the side hiring less-than-respectable folk to take care of the numerous threats to Sanctuary that are now outside Watcher jurisdiction.

Be that less than respectable assassin, hone your skills and take up a moniker, find an in-between person you can trust to negotiate your contracts or Disguise yourself to be that person...

As long as it's interactive with an agenda you can pursue regardless of DM attention it should have plenty of play potential.

Hey my dude, re: paladin builds,

Consider cross-classing to Fighter if you need feats. Specifically, Extra Turning and Divine Shield are great for paladins if you also have Power Attack.

Taunt is great with a higher Charisma bonus, especially with a paladin.

If you simply want to win in PvP however, go with a half ling rogue with rapid shot and darts.

As a Paladin, your greatest PvP resources are twofold: allies and honour. Playing your character straight will put those supplies in your inventory and they beat potions every time.

I would try:
Str 14
Dex 12
Con 14
Int 10
Wis 14
Cha 14

Power attack at 1, extra turning at 3, divine shield at 6, with a free feat at 1. Take your Taunt, Discipline, and Heal. I forget if Paladins get 2 or 4 skills/lvl. Thanks Pathfinder
